the proper ways of Vedas are three:

 

1) Karma Yoga.

2) Sankhya or Jnana Yoga.

3) Bhakti Yoga.

 

these are standards. Bhakti reveals bhagavan and results in attainment of his lotus feet while karma and jnana yoga purifies ones intelligence and enables it to percieve true nature of self or jiva atman as different from body and by nature immutable, full of knowledge and bliss.
