For what reason did the evil followers of Asuras fight with the followers of Devas? I mean from a historical point of view. The follwers of Asuras called themselves Aryans and worshipped many Vedic Gods such as Indra etc. What was the exact reason for the fight?

This was the first religous war in Hinduism, right?

Your questions are based on your incorrect or fuzzy understanding of hinduism. any way, let me try to give some answer(s).

<<.. evil followers of Asuras >>

this phrase is fuzzy.

an asura is one who has demoniac mentality as described by krishna in gita. please read that chapter in gita at

http://www.asitis.com

<< fight with the followers of Devas? >>

this is also fuzzy phrase.

those with divine mentality, god loving people, are called suras.

this classification of sura-asura has no basis of race or skin color or locality. it is strictly based on the mentality and nature and charcter of the person.

being so, at any time in the world, there always will be people with totally opposite mentality and desires. this causes fights.

historically, according to the vedic literatuere, the first great asura was hiranyakashipu. when these asuras cause suffering to the suras, and if the suras cannot win because the asura is very strong, then god himself incarnates and kills asura. this has dome many times and will do it as necessary. this however does not mean that the suras should not fight and just ask god to fight for them. no.

gita is the summary of 80,000 verses of the vedas. the message of krishna in gita is that in this material world fighting cannot be avoided. therefore one must fight adharma and adharmis. fighting in that way is not sin at all.

<< I mean from a historical point of view. The follwers of Asuras called themselves Aryans >>

aryan is any one who accepts the authority of the vedas and lives by it. aryan is not a race. please remember.

asuras usually do not care the vedas or god. they are atheists sometimes.

<< and worshipped many Vedic Gods such as Indra etc. >>

hinduism provides a variety of ways to realize god or go to god. you can choose any path you like. is it not nice?

other religions do not give such freedom.

<< What was the exact reason for the fight? >>

it always is adharma. asuras do sinful things and cause problems to the suras. fighting cannot be avoided.

<< This was the first religous war in Hinduism, right? >>

hinduism has no religous wars or crusades.

we do not invade other countries and do not force hinduism on others. hinduism spreads by free choice.

fights between suras and asuras can happen in many ways, small or big, equal numerical forces on each side or totally unequal, like it happened 5000 years ago in India.

suras alwasy win. if they loose, god helps them to win next time soon. the idea is that bad guys cannot stay in control over good guys for long. god does not favor gad guys. suras never want asuras come to power.

If you understand the concept of Veda's you will understand that "sarvam vishnu mayam jagath" or "ekam namachivayam" meaning that everything in the universe is god, including your devas, asuras, men, animal, paper, pencil etc.

Everything in unievrse is god.By maya you see it as different objects. You dont realise that you are no way inferior to the god you worship. You dont realise that by worshiping god you only are worshiping yourself.

God is "sath sith anandha bhrammam". Whatever we see is maya.Truth is everything is same.vevrything is one.everything is god.

God wants the jeevathma to reach paramathma . The path jeevathma takes to reach paramathma is full of pain adn hurdles, like asuras, pain, death, torture, failure etc.

Once jeevathma realises that he and paramathma is one and the same, that Desire is the root cause for all evils, he will realise the truth. That is the name of the game. When you remove desire, likes and disliokes from your mind, you will see god in every deva and asura.

And aryyans never worshipped indhra as a god.Indhra is a deva, which is inbetween god and men.He is to be respected and worshipped, not as a parabhrammam, like vishnu, shiva or ganesh, but as a devatha.

Like how you will worship your mother, but wont treat her at par with lord vishnu.

for the bhramma gnani, indhra, vishnu, shiva himself all is god.everything is parabhrammam.

<< Desire is the root cause for all evils, >>

specifically, the desire to enjoy with the senses (neglecting god) is the root cause for suffering.

desire to please krishna should not be given up.

yagna, daana tapa karma na tyaajyet.. says krishna.

the muslims and xians in india need to give up the disire to convert the hindus, or get out of the vedid land.
