Well, come on then everyone in the UK, what did you think of the first episode? O.K. I`llstart off by saying that it was a little dissapointing for me, with a few obvious gaping flaws, but I should take these things on face value by now, it is for kids after all! over all I think 7/10 I like the new doctor, and Billie Pipers acting is a lot better this series. Hi Peter

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think it was the strongest story line ever, but David Tennant is a wonderful Doctor, and as you say, Billie Piper was acting incredibly well... and it certainly compared favourably to most of the first new series, and a whole load of old Dr Who :-)

That is one of the criticisms of the new doctor who series, that the aliens are not scary enough, but then I suppose that all the critics are a lot older than when they first saw Doctor Who originally? I think they are doing a great job too. The clips I have seen of some of the other episodes look very exciting - can't wait to see them :-)

Hi Linda

Since you gave up on the series before seeing the new Doctor, I find it odd that you know that he's no good in the role.

In fact, the reason he was chosen was because he is one of the " hottest " properties in acting at the moment, and because he is a huge Dr Who fan. While obviously you are entitled to your opinion, the entertainment world has given him just about every acting award going!

And as to non-film actors not being " on the same level " , I think Laurence Olivier might have had something to say about that!

Hi Peter

Thanks for that.

I always welcolme different views.

I have watched David in previous roles and come to

my decision about his acting ability through those.

Everyone will have different views about the acting

ability of certain actors/actresses.

For instance i have no time for Hugh Grant or Clive

Owen as i do not believe that they are very

good actors but i'm sure that there will be many that

disagree.

In terms of Laurence Olivier this was a man that

featured in film, television and the stage he is quite

a different story all together he conquered all

mediums.

Awards means very little to me some of the best actors

and finest performances have never won awards or been

honoured. There is alot of internal politics in such

things.

Simply put i have no time for this man as an actor

other actors i think are marvelous people feel

likewise

we will just have to agree to disagree.

It is not a question of who is right and who is wrong

we just have different views.

Hi Linda

I suppose it depends on what you classify as " good " when it comes to acting. Olivier is generally considered to be one of the best stage actors of all time, but the only film I've ever seen him in he was completely unbelievable as the character he was meant to be playing - he completely hammed it up.

I've seen David Tennant in 4 things - Harry Potter, 1 episode of Casanova, Quatermass and now Dr Who - in all of them he's played a completely different character, and he was completely believable in all of them: at no time did I think that he was " acting " - he just was the character he played, which to me is what makes a good actor.

I have no idea who Clive Owen is, but I agree with you about Hugh Grant.

As a matter of interest - in general, what do you think makes a good actor?

I think he is a good actor. I'm not fussed about the way he looks - he's

acting Dr Who not a pin-up.

I think there is a mistake in your thinking that David Tennant was cheaper

than anyone else. Christopher Ecclestone was more expensive than most -

that is why he was hired to do one series only. David Tennant is an

experienced stage actor who has won many awards, and has also been a hit on

the tv recently. He will not be one of the cheapest actors available and

willing to play Dr Who. He is a longstanding Dr Who fan, and has done a lot

of the audio stories, so he will already understand the characater, and know

what to bring to it. Unfortunately Christopher Ecclestone was not a

particular fan of Dr Who, and good as he was, I think it showed a little.

Although Laurence Olivier may have 'conquered all mediums' I found his

screen acting to be fairly abysmal. As a stage actor he was good - but his

acting was too big for the screen.

Dont close your mind to the idea without giving him a chance! Admittidly, he did spend a lot of the episode witha stupid confused look on his face, but give him a chance? Wot u got against him anyway? I havent seen him in anything else so its hard for me to say how good an actor he is. Hi Linda, Olivier always seems to me to be a luvies , luvie, so to speak, his reptutation preceded him by a mile. A trooper. Hugh Grant seems to have one style a super fop, and a bloody annoying one at that, I wouldnt hire him to act his age! Clive Owen? well I only saw him in Sin City, and he was bloody good in that, but then I`m biased as one of the few people on here who liked that powerful film. The Valley Vegan.................linda galvin <ljgukuk wrote: Hi PeterThanks for that.I always welcolme different views.I have watched David in previous roles and come tomy decision about his acting ability through those.Everyone will have different views about the actingability of certain actors/actresses.For instance i have no time for Hugh Grant

or CliveOwen as i do not believe that they are verygood actors but i'm sure that there will be many thatdisagree. In terms of Laurence Olivier this was a man thatfeatured in film, television and the stage he is quitea different story all together he conquered allmediums.Awards means very little to me some of the best actorsand finest performances have never won awards or beenhonoured. There is alot of internal politics in suchthings.Simply put i have no time for this man as an actorother actors i think are marvelous people feellikewisewe will just have to agree to disagree. It is not a question of who is right and who is wrongwe just have different views.--- Peter Kebbell wrote:> Hi Linda> > Since you gave up on the series before seeing the> new Doctor, I find it odd> that you know that he's no good in the role.>
