Guest guest Report post Posted April 8, 2006 I was found to be low in B12 in January, then asked to take for multivits. Blood test about two weeks ago still revealed low B12. Doc has asked me NOW to take a higher dose of B12 Tablets.
Guest guest Report post Posted April 8, 2006 Do it! B12 is serious stuff. Methylcobalamin is a better bet than cyanocobalamin. Both are easy to get hold and most products are vegan.

Guest guest Report post Posted April 9, 2006 In a vegan diet it is only available from foods that have it added - in the UK - Cornflakes, soya milk etc. Jo - " linda galvin " <ljgukuk Sunday, April 09, 2006 5:57 PM Re: Low B12. > > > Other than taking supplements in tablet form what > foods do other use to get their required amount of > B12. > > > > > ---------------------- > > > > > > > I was found to be low in B12 in January, then > > asked to take for > > > multivits. Guest guest Report post Posted April 9, 2006 None - unless you eat the soil on them. You need to use prepared foods that have it added or take a supplement. There is no other way. Guest guest Report post Posted April 9, 2006 but runsout over the years if you do not replenish it. You do have to have a source of it. Apart from the heart trouble caused by lack of vitamin B12 older people may remember pernicious anaemia which resulted in paralysis and dementia. ~Take a supplement or use foods with it added. Guest guest Report post Posted April 10, 2006 Hi Peter Thanks for that. I don't like soya milk or anything milk like. It would be available from greens eg vegetable etc wouldn't it. Things like Marmite i think might be high in Vitamin B aswell i think? I know Marmite is vegan but are there any similar vegan marmite alternatives. --- Peter <metalscarab wrote: > Hi Linda > > > Other than taking supplements in tablet form what > > foods do other use to get their required amount of > > B12. > > I get my B12 through fortified soya milk... Guest guest Report post Posted April 10, 2006 there are no true vegetable sources of b12..... there are various B12 analogs(similar in structure to b12) in stuff like seaweed, etc..but... all B12 is made from bacteria..... it use to be found in soils, and hence would have entered our diet thru our vegetables that way... but..modern agriculture and processing have basically eliminated it from our diet via that root..... >linda galvin <ljgukuk >Apr 10, 2006 3:03 AM > >Re: Low B12. > > >Hi Peter > >Thanks for that. > >I don't like soya milk or anything milk like. >It would be available from greens eg vegetable etc >wouldn't it. >Things like Marmite i think might be high in Vitamin B >aswell i think? >I know Marmite is vegan but are there any similar >vegan marmite alternatives. > > >--- Peter <metalscarab wrote: > >> Hi Linda >> >> > Other than taking supplements in tablet form what >> > foods do other use to get their required amount of >> > B12. >> >> I get my B12 through fortified soya milk... Guest guest Report post Posted April 10, 2006 well...technically...B12 is always produced by our intestinal floral and fauna it just happens to be a bit to far down the trail do be absorbed very well in our own systems... B12 is stored in the liver for a very long time, but, yes, eventually you will run out... but..since i eat organically as much as possible, eat from my own garden, and the dang stuff is pretty much everywhere over here(nut and soy milks, tofu, cereal, juices, etc), i'm not overly concerned... now...my belly..that i'm concerned about.. bleh!!! fraggle >jo <jo.heartwork >Apr 9, 2006 2:37 PM > >Re: Re: Low B12. > >but runsout over the years if you do not replenish it. Guest guest Report post Posted April 10, 2006 Hi Linda > I don't like soya milk or anything milk like. > It would be available from greens eg vegetable etc > wouldn't it. Nope - B12 is a bacteria which only occurs in significant quantities is animal stomachs and dirt! To get it in a vegan diet, you either need to have supplements, fortified foods, or eat dirt!!! > Things like Marmite i think might be high in Vitamin B > aswell i think? I don't know, as I have a pathological hatred for marmite!!! But it may be a different B vitamin - there are about 8 of them I think! BB Peter
