What was nice about the show is that they councelled the women to help them to feel better about themselves. Most of the women then seemed to have a lot more motivation to take care of themselves too.peter hurd <swpgh01 wrote:

Surely if they felt better about themselves they wouldn't have felt

the need to alter their bodies/faces. If Michael Jackson had felt

better about himself he would still be a good-looking chap instead of

a freak.

I agree it has to do with self esteem. MJ seems extremely insecure.

some of the ugliest people have the nicest personality.

My husband happens to be good looking (i think) but If

I really liked someone, and their personality, I would've

married them anyway, regardless of wheter they have big ears or wahtever.

I sure wish there was a follow-up show to let us know how the people did long term. I know there are a lot of people who are really self conscious and feel so ugly. These people really bloomed while on the show. The thing is that they covered all the mirrors, so the people couldn't even see themselves, and we didn't see them either when they were done, we only saw them in all the bandgaes, and yet you could see their self confidence increasing. I wonder if that was because of what people were telling them? Because of the workout routines and they could look down and see what it was doing to their body? If that were the case, perhaps they could something else to boost thier confidence? I dunno, but I do know I couldn't do it (the surgeries).heartwerk <jo.heartwork wrote:

Hi Jonnie

What annoys me is that surgeons are allowed to make money and do unnecessary surgery on someone who is obviously suffering from some mental disorder.

I think it appealed to the people who agreed to be on the show because they believed strongly in the if... then statement. If this were this way, then everything would be perfect. Of course, that is rarely the case. I'm guessing when they went back to their old lives, everything was upside down. The way things were previously would be upside down. I'm guessing the spouses had a lot of adjustments too. I wonder how many relationships were able to stand the changes.peter hurd <swpgh01 wrote:

I wonder if that was because of what people were telling them? Because of the workout routines and they could look down and see what it was doing to their body? If that were the case, perhaps they could something else to boost thier confidence? I think there are people like that in every business. I don't know how many times people have been so surprised when I suggested they just keep their phone. They come in looking for the latest model, or whatever and then ask which one is best. Hey, we like to make some money, but we aren't all about the money! Customer satifaction covers many different aspect! Of course, many of these surgeons would be out of a job if they offered couselling to build people's self esteem.

I heard recently about a procedure that's being done that can't be good. The commercial states that you can stop your monthlys permanently. The procedure involves putting a wire net inside the uterius and delivering a shock and then they remove the lining. Yeah, that's something I really wanna do! Electricute me baby!jo <jo.heartwork wrote:

Hi Jonnie

What annoys me is that surgeons are allowed to make money and do unnecessary surgery on someone who is obviously suffering from some mental disorder.

Hi Fraggle,

I agree with everything except the " too much " and the " mule "

statements.

Nikki :)

i haven't commented, basically cuz i comment to much

but..somehow, the basic premise of the show REALLY bugged me

my ex use to watch it, so i use to go in the living room and read

but

i could hear it and all that

anyways...the whole concept of " lets do a billion surgeries on you

because yer not up to our standards " didn't thrill me

wots wrong with being who you are?

me..i'm uglier then a 16 day old mule.....so wot..who cares?

be who you are....

thats just me i guess

Now, I have to challenge that assertion... it must be less than half, because there are a significant number of women who are either too young or too old :-)
