Colin's copy arrived over the weekend (from Amazon) and he's reading it now. Actually he's reading and laughing! He got his copy for £8 - as long as he ordered £20 worth of books - so I now have two new Maeve Binchy's to read :-)

Re: Re: Buy Canadian.. Harry Potter

I pre-ordered it through Amazon.com and paid full price because I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO READ IT!!! I've spent the last three weeks re-reading the first five books in preparation and have been salivating waiting for today. And there's flat out no way it's even going to be in my local library for anyone to read for at least six months.

love,

Anna

I was rather curious at that behaviour... I could understand if there were limited numbers, so people were queueing to buy it before it was out of stock...!

I think it's the party atmosphere and time spent with other's who also are 'into' the Harry Potter thing more than just getting the book. My son went to a Harry Potter party where people dressed up as characters, did trivial and such. He had a great time.

Speaking of which, my sister when to a mystery party recently where each party-goer was told what character they were to dress up as and her husband was a little out-of-whack to find that he was to dress up as a computer nerd. It was a little too close to home, I guess. When my brother-in-law got to the party, he found out he was the 'killer' and each person was given clues to find him out.

I had to work the night it was released or I probably would have been another one of those bespectacled, lighting-bolted foreheaded freaks at the bookstore. And I don't even have any kids!

Re: Re: Buy Canadian.. Harry Potter

My son went to a Harry Potter party the night before the book was released. Apparently he was the only one who had to leave before midnight, (but he didn't complain), anyhow, the next morning I rushed out to buy 2 books (one for him and one for me) and drop his off at his work before I had to rush off to class. He called me as I was leaving class to tell me he found out that he had won a book at the party the night before. How cool is that?Anna Blaine <anna333 wrote:

Hi Jo

That's what I need to do. Been delving into too much research and

learning lately I need to just free the mind!

I've never read Binchy but I just googled her and her work looks

interesting. I'll have to definately give it a try.

I read more science fiction and horror than love stories, but must say

am completely takem by Janet Evanovich. Her books are just too funny!

I'm awaiting to get a look at her newest, but the wait list at the

library is long.

Definately need to head up there soon. Just seems to be always

something going on lately.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Maybe it was just Amazon UK that stopped it - and maybe they have started

again anyway!

I find I get too het up with writing campaigning letters etc. and forget

what normal life is like. So, for a while I let it go and have fun to

become lighthearted again. Although while I was away for the weekend I had

to help a disabled woman get into the disabled 'Ladies' because the door was

too heavy and the light cord was out of reach for someone in a wheelchair!

I promised myself I would start a writing campaign about that.

Hi Jo

That does not sound very handicapped friendly to me!

Thank goodness you were there for her!

It was bad. Her arms/top were perfectly capable, and if the door was

lighter she would have managed that. I had to heave at it to get it open!

Listen Lynda, I thought we already agreed that you would stop

reading my journal to the rest of the group! That's it, I'm telling

them about the pink tights!

Ya know, I dunno. Too hard to explain what I like. But yes, Ranger

does " intrigue " me. Morelli is nice and all, but he is definately

not Ranger.

Hey come on, if my local library had 3 copies, I`m sure that your library would have a copy? Its a small South Wales valley town! They had a Harry Potter day to celebrate the release , and unfortunately had 5 owls from a local bird sanctuary who were very stressed at being awake at the wrong time of day.

Just talking of Amazon, a little while back, I read something about Amazon being non-animal friendly. I can't remember why... can anyone help me out, and does anyone know if they're still doing whatever it was they used to do that made them non-animal friendly????

I live in Boise, Idaho. The only reason our library sees any traffic is because you can check out movies for free. I can never find the book I want when I go there.
