Guest guest Report post Posted August 12, 2001 A warm welcome Lisa! Hope you find some good recipes here! A little at a time is my best advice. Once I began to eat healthier foods, and started to de-tox, I started to feel so much better and that gave me the incentive to cook more, and cook healthier. It really has improved my quality of life. Love & Light, Kendra

Guest guest Report post Posted March 31, 2003 Welcome Anne, I know the feeling when your the only vegetarian in your family :-) My son who is 21 gave me a hard time. Than all of a sudden he changed his mind? I think he told someone at college and the person said it was great..lol......My husband is enjoying most of my dishes and may even lose the 40 pounds. Looking forward to sharing recipes with you and everyone. I'am off this morning...starting back into my running program..... Guest guest Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Welcome to the list, Karlthomas6. I had a similar experience one day on my trip to Medford. We were driving by a lovely pasture full of these beautiful gentle cows; all of them sadly were " beefers " . There were a few cute little calves frollicking and some were just peacefully laying in the tall grass next to their moms. All I could think of was, " you are all doomed " and I began to cry big silent tears. My kids asked me what was wrong and I told them how sad it makes me when I actually see animals being raised for slaughter like that. Right next to my house, one lot over from me, is a small pasture where some neighbors keep a beef cow. They get a new one every year. The current little guy is so sweet. He comes running up to the fence playfully when I am out walking my dogs, and I often hear him making a lonely bellowing moo during the day. I think it is the saddest thing that he is all alone and I often wonder if he knows his fate and if that doesn't have something to do with why he cries out so much. Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent, but your mention struck a chord with me. I do hope you will enjoy your stay on this list. Guest guest Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Hi I joined the group because I have an exam on Monday, so am busy revising and haven't got time to cook long winded recipes. I've preferred not to eat meat all my life, was forced to eat meat as a child sometimes. Look forward to receiving recipes, and will contribute some after my exam Best Wishes Lucy

Guest guest Report post Posted May 6, 2004 Faith, My family and I started on this vegetarian road for the very same reasons. My dh with super-high genetic cholesterol (his father died at 50 with a heart attack while playing tennis with a doctor!), and my two precious children (dd on meds at 12) needed to learn to stay alive with the proper diet. Just in case you haven't tried it... " Gimme Lean " from Lifeline is a really good sub for ground beef and sausage. And a good slug of New Mexican chile can't hurt either. Good luck. Guest guest Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Micki~ Thanks for the intro! I would be interested in hearing more about how you feed your dogs (raw). I am exploring this myself for my dog & keep hearing many controversial views on feeding dogs. If you don't mind sharing a bit about what/why you feed your dogs & the positive changes you've seen as a result, I'd appreciate it. I did the opposite of you--I began eating raw & wondered why I was feeding my dog this disgusting/dead/dry kibble. Please e-mail me off-list as some may not be interested. thanks! blessings, Leslie
Guest guest Report post Posted March 24, 2005 Hello everyone - I too am interested in the raw dog food - I have been thinking of it since I started on raw foods myself a short while ago - would appreciate more info if anyone has some - I read a little on the Internet about including some vegetables - finely shredded (remains of juicing) to raw meat as the main food a dog would have in the wild would be some animal with vegetable remains in its gut. Guest guest Report post Posted March 27, 2006 My daughter had peeling on her hands which became very bad and the doctor called it psoriasis but some of it didn't exactly fit her. She was vegetarian, and for some time, and drank a lot of milk and other dairy products. When she went vegan giving up the dairy the psoriasis disappeared. I don't know why this happened, just that it did and that is how it worked itself out. Allergies come and go throughout our lives and one can develop an allergy at any time. I had eczema when young that was ghastly, but it went away as I got older...why? No clue. If your daughter is eating a variety of foods without an excess of junk foods then it is unlikely she is missing something to do with diet. So, maybe it is an allergy of some sort. Nerves? Stress? Environmental? Something that she is putting on her skin now..or detergents, softeners? You can research the issue on line too to see the differences in different skin ailments. But I seriously doubtful it is because she doesn't eat meat. Oh, and the medications that they wanted to put Mary on for the psoriasis was really toxic and she decided not to go that route. linda " Susanne " <siskiou > One big question: About 6 months after our daughter became > vegetarian, she developed eczema. > I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or if she is missing > something vital that's not in her diet. > > She takes a multi-vitamin, and eats two tablespoons of > fortified, ground flax seed. > > Any ideas would be appreciated! > > > -- > Best regards, > Susanne siskiou > > > > > >
Guest guest Report post Posted March 27, 2006 hi susanne, welcome! i'm so glad you found the recipe files...it's a great resource. i don't think a vegetarian diet would be the cause of eczema, especially if she's eating healthy. sometimes allergies, stress and/or anxiety can be the cause eczema. anyway, i hope you enjoy it here! susie --- Susanne <siskiou wrote: > Hi, > > I joined about a week ago, and have been reading > along. > > We are a family of three, and 2 years ago at age 12, > our > daughter became a vegetarian (she still eats eggs > and dairy, > but makes sure the cheese is rennetless, and the > eggs from > cage free hens. Guest guest Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Doris, I am new to this, too. It is for my digestive tract which was damaged in an automobile accident. It is working. My problem is that I love vegetables, and I want to make things that still taste like the vegetable. It is fun coming up with various things. Like using a lettuce leaf instead of bread or a wrap for a sandwich and stuffing it with finely chopped vegetables, cream cheese, hummus, etc. As long as you keep up a variety, you and your family should succeed. Marilyn Daub mcdaub Vanceburg, KY My Cats Knead Me!! - Doris Atkinson Monday, May 29, 2006 1:40 PM new member intro Hello! I've been saying for years that we needed to eat less meat - for health reasons. Now that our oldest son is dating a vegetarian (who is striving to be a vegan) the rest of my family is thinking the same. Having grown up in farm country, we are all used to meat-based meals, so this is a new experience for us. We are learning, though. Thanks for the opportunity to join a group that will help us learn. ~ Doris
Guest guest Report post Posted August 24, 2006 hi danielle welcome! i know what you mean about having to make a dozen substitutions in a recipe and then not being terribly thrilled with the result. i'd recommend starting with a really good vegan cookbook. my favourites are by sarah kramer. i've also borrowed susan fenster's 'special diet solutions' from the library, and found that useful. she does use eggs in some things, but in most cases gives info on how to replace those eggs. best wishes alice On 25 Aug 2006, at 04:51, Danielle Golio wrote: > Hi - I have been a vegetarian for over 11 years.
