Here's another Minnesota newbie just saying Hi and thanks for

letting me into, what looks like, a VERY informative group. I am

still in the " slowly changing over to vegetarian " group and I'm

excited to have tried and true recipes to try out! I have been

spending alot of time reading cookbooks, the latest being Debbie

Madsens newest....I love it but haven't tried anything yet. I don't

consider myself the most organized person in the world and working

40+ hours a week doesn't leave me alot of time for experimenting, so

I am off to your recipe archives to get me inspired! Thanks again

for the nice welcome.

Check out the files on the home page. They are full of great filling recipes.

Remember the more fiber(fruits, nuts and veggies) and whole grains you include

in a meal, the more filling it will be.

Welcome. Good to see to meet you.

811 is shorthand for the 80/10/10 raw lifestyle (80% carbohydrate, 10%

fat, 10% protein)

Dr. Graham's website http://www.foodnsport.com explains it better than I

can. I actually hope to buy the book of the same name, soon.

While I enjoy experimenting with recipes from time to time, I find I

feel better the more naturally I eat my food. I enjoy eating raw, and

want to make it a permanent lifestyle. The health benefits so far have

been great.

Thanks arriannah for this information i will go on this website.

It's probably a very good choice, because me i know that i m eating too much

fat and i gaining weight which is not dramatic but not fantastic neither

lol.

Take care.

Hi Jana!

Thanks for jumping in here and saying hi! I do hope you will try to make it to

some of our

raw potlucks or gatherings. For me, it was great going to those because you get

to meet

lots of people who are doing raw in different ways, because there are lots of

ways to " be

raw " . You can find a list of events at www..org. We are having a

lunch

meetup at Chaco Canyon next weekend!

For me, the 12 Steps to Raw Foods book by Victoria Boutenko was especially

inspirational

and helpful when I first started.

Gotta run right now - I am in New York checking out the raw restaurants!!!

You pretty much need an ice cream freezer and a recipe. If you have an ice

cream freezer and no recipe, I can give you recipies. Freezers come in a

variety of sizes and shapes, but you can get a small one for about $20 at

walmart of fred meyer.

I have not done this however my daughter made Ice cream in school using this

method not sure what ingredients they used.

What you'll need:

* 1 tablespoon sugar

* 1/2 cup milk or half & half

* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

* 6 tablespoons rock salt

* 1 pint-size Ziploc plastic bag

* 1 gallon-size Ziploc plastic bag

* Ice cubes

How to make it:

1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the

bag.

2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.

3. Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.

4. Shake until mixture is ice cream, about 5 minutes.

5. Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!

Tips:

To make a larger amount, try doubling the recipe. Anything larger might be

too big for kids to pick-up, because the ice itself is quite heavy.

Hello!

I am new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. I am just

learning to cook really, and especially new to vegetarian cooking, but

am really enjoying the learning experience. I am even starting to

experiment a bit with recipes, and changing them in small ways....some

day I will become more brave and maybe even make my own recipe up from

scratch. For now, I am looking forward to learning from you! And

slimming down a bit along the way.

Hi there, Trillium, and welcome :) Everyone has to learn to cook sometime, and

now seems to be yours! Good for you :) It's really not so difficult if you can

a) boil water, and b) saute a few things in a tsp of oil in a pan. Easey-peasey.

Otherwise, try roasting veggies in the oven at around 350 degrees for a while

until they seem to be cooked - _just_ able to pierce them with a skewer but not

mushy - and sprinkle a little balsamic vinegar on them, or a little lemon juice,

or your fave spice mix. Fantastic!

Otherwise, of course, you can look in our Files for wonderful ideas. Good luck,

and if you need any help let us know - we love to give advice and, strangely,

it's always gooood!!!!

Hi Trillium and welcome to our group!

I once was intimidated by cooking since I never was taught or involved in it

growing up but I have come to really enjoy making meals and trying new foods. I

haven't been cooking as much these last 6 months since my partner and I split

up, it's just not quite as fun cooking for one as it is for 2!

We have a lot of great recipes in our files for you to check out and try if

you'd like. And if you come up with a tasty vegetarian (slimming) dish, by all

means, please share it with us!

Hello!

Hi, Thank you for having me on this group. We are not vegetarian, but I am

looking to try and cut out a lot of the meat from our diet, purely because I

think vegetarian food tastes better most of the time and is healthier.

However, I have one son (out of the four) who is severely autistic, and is

on a gluten free and casein free diet. So if no one minds, I'll be lurking

and learning and picking up tips (and recipies if they appear), but possibly

not contributing much!

Love

How did your parents react when at age ten you decided to be a vegetarian?

My parents were actually pretty accepting about it. They had talked to several

doctors and a nutritionist, and they had all said that vegetarianism would be

safe for me. I had a lot more trouble convincing them to let me be a vegan,

though. Most of the doctors they talked to had not had a lot of experience with

veganism, so they were skeptical. However, I did my own research and proved to

my parents that I could be healthy as a vegan.
