Not that it matters of course,as all vegans are cool

intrigue me.

Has/does any one in da house ever visit the COUNTRY

LIFE resturant in London?What a cool place...best

eaterie in the old smoke....Not sure about the 7th day

adventist philosophy but at least they don't force

feed that to you along with their truly excellent

vrgan yummies.

Right I'm off to eat loads now I've made myself hungry

again...ummmm it's vegan pancakes for me and then some

hot licks on my axe

P.S yo to the East Bay Punx...I still maintain the

true Punk ethique from 1977...yep I'm that old, folks.

Julie -

Welcome to the group. Isn't it nice to know that you AREN'T the only one out

there?!?! People may think you are but we're actually infiltrating all facets

of life - LOL. Where are you going to college? I'm sure with all the members

we would be able to find other weirdos out there!!

I was reading a bunch of reasons " NOT " to go vegan yesterday and loved these

two!!!

After hearing you're a vegan, people think you are some sort of militant, scary

fanatic who exudes ulterior motives in every sentence. they don't seem to

understand when you tell them you were like that before you became a vegan...

HAHAHAHHAHA!!!!

You're taking food (lettuce) away from the bunnies.

Hi Julie, it's great to mailing-list-meet you.

It sure is hard to be alone in one's ethical beliefs, but now you definitely

know you're not alone and that there are vegans dotted all around the globe,

I hope it becomes a bit easier.

As for veganism being unhealthy, I don't know about you, but I've never been

healthier! Advertisement campaigns for meat, poultry and dairy products on

TV and other mediums really push the health message: 'to get the recommended

daily intake of iron, you can eat a huge plate of boring spinach... or have

a nice small piece of steak', 'to get the recommended daily dose of calcium,

make sure you have three servings of dairy', etc, etc. Society thoroughly

believes that these things are extremely healthy, and it usually takes a

long time for us to see these products for what they really are - dead

animals' flesh, milk, enzymes from dead calves' stomachs, and so on - not to

mention the fear, pain, and any other unnecessary bad experiences have been

forced upon them.

It's seriously like Keanu Reeves and his character in The Matrix. Most of

the world doesn't want to wake up. They don't want to feel guilt; they think

it's going to be difficult, restrictive and expensive to change their

lifestyle; they think they won't be able to ever eat tasty, delicious,

sweet, scrumptious foods again. Some of the world does want to wake up, but

they haven't been given the information that they need yet.

Anyway, it's good that you found 'us', so to speak. Welcome.

Hi Julie,

good job on going vegan. I've been vegan for about 7 years now and the last two years, I was 100% raw eating only fruits and vegies. But now-a-days, I eat some cooked vegies. I love baked potatoes. I eat no sugar, salt, fat or grains ... only fruits and vegies. I will eat raw honey and pure maple syrup. At age 55 and 5'6", I weigh a healthy 140 lbs. and I run anywhere from 5 to 10 miles ... three to four days a week. Yes, I am strong and healthy ... contrary to main-stream opinion, vegans are not sickly and weak. On the other hand, people who consume animal products do got sick alot.

The reason for my eating is that I am recovering from a deadly heart ailment. I used to be a private pilot, but I lost my medical ... compliments of

the FAA. There is so much to enjoy in life beside flying my

own airplane. At least I am still alive and able to

run. So welcome to the group and the vegan journey.

Werner.

Hello, I joined this group a week or two ago but have been hesitant about

posting, this being my work email and all. Because of this I try to keep

postings to a minimum.

I've been semi-veggie or pesco-veggie for about 11 years now. My formerly

omnivorous husband has adopted my eating habits and he swears it's because

he loves my cooking so much.

I've found that most non-veggies seem to be under the impression that all

veggies of various incarnations eat is salad. I have to constantly tell

people that we rarely eat salad at my house. Even so, ironically, I'm going

to post a salad recipe that I concocted last night out of the dregs in my

refrigerator because it was soooo yummy. In fact, I just ate the leftovers

for breakfast.

Pear & Gorgonzola Salad with Apricot Vinaigrette

1 prepackaged bag of mixed greens salad

1 ripe pear, cut into thin slices

1/3 cup raw almonds

1/2 red onion, cut into thin slices

1/3 cup gorgonzola cheese crumbled

Apricot Vinaigrette

1/4 cup olive oil

3-4 tablespoons rice wine vinegar

1 tablespoon honey (more if you like it sweet)

3 tablespoons apricot jam

Mix well with a wire wisk

Wow. Sounds very good. I have a bunch of ripe pears off my tree out back

sitting now on my kitchen counter. I will try this recipe with some of them.

Thanks.

Hi Kate!

Whereabouts in the UK? I am a Brit living in TN now. I was born in Birmingham.

My parents live just outside Crewe in Cheshire, and my brother in Thomas Hardy

land aka Dorset ...

Anyway - welcome! Nice to meet you ...

I'm Kate, I live in the UK, and I have been a vegetarian for 9 years.

It's great to find a group that caters (sorry no pun intended LOL)

for all aspects of vegetarianism, rather than solely vegan or lacto.

Looking forward to getting to know you all,

bye for now,

hello

i just joined this group after my second invitation.

so, uh, hi....

l live in north carolina. i'm 35,and i recently left the army, where

i was a communications sergeant.

i am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. i love foods from all over, though i am

particularly fond of indian and thai, and ethiopian.

i live in a community where vegetarianism is not only not practiced,

but it is viewed with suspicion; most of these people haven't even

considered the concept, and often are surprised that i can even

survive--let alone thrive--on a diet that doesn't include dead

animals.

requests for vegetarian food at restaurants, usually end up with a

salad (invariably covered with bacon or ham) and vegetables that have

been cooked in pork. (waitress, did i not make myself clear enough?)

since this is a restricted, unmoderated group, i assume that only

only p.t./feral troll can invite. then again, i thought my first

invite was from brigette mohr, who is also in another (buddhist)

group with me; though i mostly lurk there.

either way, invites can't be made witihout owner/moderator approval

in restricted groups, if that's what you're asking.

Welcome to the group, Jim. I am glad that you decided to

give the invite consideration. :)

You live in NC and cannot find any veggie friendly folk? That

is so sad, but I have heard that from some people depending

on where they live in the country.

Take heart. We have many wonderful recipes in our files section

that are easy to prepare yourself. I say no point giving rude places

of business any more of your money.

You are correct. But it is also open anyone can submit to

be accepted in the group and I approve everyone who does.

I also send out approx imately 200 invites daily to people on

the vegetarian member list or the food and drink list.

Anyone interested in vegetarian cooking and friendly discussion

are welcome here. :)

mind you, i don't speak so much of nc in general. many parts,

especially in the lager cities, are veggie friendly. but i live in a

rural area. my town is the turkey capital of the world, and pork

production falls not far behind. does this tell you anything?

i cook for myself mostly, so that's one reason i joined this group.

already, i got a good aloo channa recipe. er, except a million

indians would make the poster bite their tongue for suggesting

jasmine rice in the place of basmati! ;D

The reason I ask is because I've received two invites at my home email

address, and I assume that I don't know the person, especially since the

inviter hasn't made themselves known to me. Hence, I'd like to know how I

was *picked* to be invited.

I'd like to know if my email address is out there floating somewhere for

anyone to grab...

Glad to know that you have chosen the path of a

healthier lifestyle...! I also had become a vegan for

the past month. I've been a vegetarian for many

years, but only now I committed myself to change my

diet and lifestyle. So far so good...!

Hope you're enjoying the new changes in your life as

well as the good food.

Cindy, welcome to the garden of earthly delights! How marvelous on your veg life

(I am also a lacto-ovo due to availability to get fresh from the source raised

as pets not income cows and chickens). We homeschooled our youngest through

middle school and high school. (severe hyper, add) so when I find another

homeschooler I like to give a special high five. I only had one to teach,

multiples...wow. (My niece home schooled her 7...wow I am tired just thinking of

it.) Are you part of a local hs support group? Ours was large and we took all

the kids on field trips monthly, plus picnics, shared skill resources, etc.

What are you doing to greenie your new home? We've wanted to build an earth

bermed for about 40 years now but have never been able to afford. (drats)

So glad to have you in the group. Jeanne in GA

Hello everyone. i am new to the group, so I just wanted to introduce

myself. I stopped eating meat when I was in the 8th grade. I was very

successful with this and even attempted a vegan diet several times,

although I found it very difficult to completely make the

transformation. This lasted for about 5 years, then about 3 years ago,

(when I was 21) after many years of prompting by my now husband, my

family and friends, I gave in and began eating meat again. It is a

decision I have regretted ever since, but have just found it easier to

eat what I fix my husband, who eats a LOT of meat. Well, I am ready now

to start eating vegetarian again! I have joined the group to get some

new recipes and to discuss things that may come up. I know it is going

to be difficult, especially with my husband, but, maybe I can finally

convince him! Hey, and he cant cook, so its either eat my food or

starve. haha
