Most published research in cancer Tx is in lab animals and humans, or in

vitro. There is very little published research on TCVM and cancer!

 

Therefore, It is wise to consider TCM research in humans/lab animals and

not to limit yourselves to TCVM research.

 

Though not strictly TCM, the most recent cancer research by Are Thoresen (

http://www.sanare.no ) is extremely exciting, IMO.

 

Are's team claims to have identified, synthesised and patented a cocktail of

TWELVE peptides in the blood of a human cancer patient who responded o

his acupuncture treatment. The Patent Document is at

In Phase 1 trials (in vitro - using cultured cancer cells and normal cells ), a

cocktail of synthetic peptides that mimicked the ratio in the responder was

HIGHLY successful (better than the breast-cancer chemotherapeutic drug,

Tamoxifen) in causing cancer cells to self-destruct with no damage to

healthy cells.

 

Phase 2 (animal experiments) using the synthetic peptides will start soon. If

If Are is correct, and if his team can find the correct ratio of the peptides

relevant to other specific cancers, this could be a MASSIVE (and potential

Nobel-Prize winning) breakthrough in cancer therapy. Peptides are cheap to

synthesise and if specific peptide cocktails can activate apotosis of

neoplastic cells (and leave healthy cells untouched), Are's concept may offer

a unique and inexpensive Tx for cancer.

IMO, the root defects that allow cancer cells to thrive are:

 

(a) failure of the cellular APOTOTIC (self-destruct) system (central to Are

Thoresen's peptide theory of cancer) and

 

(b) failure of the IMMUNE SYSTEM to recognise cancer cells as " foreign " .

 

Effective Tx of cancer must address the Root defects:

(a) RESET (restore CONTROL to) the APOTOTIC system (Are's concept of

using the Ko Cycle in cancer) and

(b) BOOST IMMUNE VIGILANCE so that the immune system can recognise

cancer cells as " foreign " and immobilise or destroy them.

 

Supplementary Tx (acting to Quicken Blood, Scatter Stasis, Clear

Heat+Resolve Toxin, etc) caan be seen as Branch Tx.

As Are pioneered the use of the Ko Cycle in cancer Tx, that is a question for

him.

 

However, I understand from talking to Are that for success via the Ko Cycle,

one MUST be CERTAIN as to which Channel-Organ System was the

primary one to be attacked.

 

For example in a primary breast cancer (ST Channel, EARTH), one would

use a LV (WOOD) point to exert Control on Earth.

 

Do any of you know HERBAL examples, i.e. herbs that can be used to

activate a KO-Response in a particular organ or Channel?

 

Finally, my understanding is that there is no LASTING cure for cancer at this

time. We all must die sometime.

 

IMO, the best that complementary therapy (including TCM) can do [even

when it aims to Tx the Root] is to alleviate the S & Ss associated with the

cancer or caused by surgery / chemo- or radio- therapy, improve quality of

life and increase survival time.

 

The increased survival time, however, often is only a few months . For

a three-arm randomised trial compared the herbal remedy Shenqi Yiai Ye

with cytokine (interleukin-II and gamma-interferon) or chemotherapy in 82

patients with liver cancer and pancreas cancer, who were in their advanced

stage and not suitable for surgery 5 . The trial showed beneficial effects for

herbs (28 cases) and cytokine (24 cases) therapy on survival and an

improvement in symptoms compared to chemotherapy (30 cases) (average

survival time 11.3 months for herbal therapy, 9.5 months for cytokine

therapy, and 8.5 months for chemotherapy, respectively). [i.e. herbal Tx only

increased survival time by 3 months over chemotherapy alone].

 

Are claims to have many cancer patients alive for years after he began Tx.

If his peptide treatment (based on a unique cocktail of peptides identified in

responders to his AP Tx) can activate cancer-cell apotosis and the body's

defence system in vivo, it may be the key to much longer survival times after

cancer Tx.
