Guest guest
You might want to research the Johanna Budwig diet. It is mainly used as a diet to treat cancer, but it also helps diabetics and heart patients. Cyndi as type 1 diabetic. Needing 3 injections per day. I've asked about natural via diabetic forums and they are very much closed to any suggestions that we might be able to find a way around this disease. We have spoken to a couple of (alternative healing) ppl about what they do and just don't feel comfortable about sending our son to them. (feel like that they are just grabbing our $$) Is there anybody out there with this condition especially just new ones that has done marvellously with alternatives. My husband and I (mostly me driven lol) are non believers in the health system. You know since our son has been dx (8 weeks ago) there has been 6 other little children in our smallish city dx with diabetes. I find that a huge tragedy and wonder what is going on (with stronger lanuage) hope to hear from someone soon cheers Nickie, Christchurch, New Zealand
Guest guest
John McDougall MD routinely reverses and cures serious diseases like diabetes and heart disease simply by helping his patients change their diets. In his experience, the most important thing to remove from your diet is dairy foods. I realize that a lot of people are not going to want to hear this, but the science is overwhelming. The scary thing is that advertising dollars from the milk and cheese industry keeps this simple information from getting to the public. If you want a simple thing you can do to significantly improve your health, take the time to watch this important video. Guest guest
Hey thanks guys, my mind has been bogglleed!! loads to look at. There is something I can't get in my head and I'm not entirely sure if we've been 'sold' this idea from our 'health' (hospital) ppl, but how can eating 'proper' food switch the pancreas back on. Or has the pancreas not switched off. Our son has had 2 1 hr crystal healings and seems to be reducing his need for insulin via injections. We are also going into what 'they' call the honeymoon period, whereby his pancreas is making his own insulin. how come we can't pick it up from here. I've asked the Drs etc and they just shake their heads and say no use, no studies have been successfully done. Although in NZ yesturday they did the 1st pig cell transplant on a patient. When I ask questions about natural stuff in the type 1 diabetic www forum, they all tell me to bascially get real and just take the insulin. I do get that food plays a large part of our health and am slowly looking into this - we have to obviously change our way of thinking etc. how do we get kids (esp one with Diabetes) to eat this way. I don't know I think I'm rambling now, I'm so confused. Anyways better go and get on with our day talk soon Look forward to yr replys - got more help here than Diabetes forum. Some ppl must like being sick I reckon. There is something I can't get in my head and I'm not entirely sure if we've been 'sold' this idea from our 'health' (hospital) ppl, but how can eating 'proper' food switch the pancreas back on. Or has the pancreas not switched off. Well, something else to consider among all of the flood of information that you're wading through (hugs!) is the possibility that he may be sensitive to the protein fraction of wheat, rye, and barley (gluten). Here's what the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has to say, based on studies: http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=103401 Celiac Disease and Type 1 Diabetes New York, NY, April 21, 2005 — A medical disorder once thought to be rare is now being called one of the most underdiagnosed common diseases in the U.S. today. About 1 in 10 people with type 1 diabetes in the U. S. are affected by celiac disease—compared with an estimated 1 in 100 in the general population. The incidence of celiac among people--particularly children—with type 1 diabetes has led an increasing number of healthcare professionals and parents to call for routine screening of all people with type 1 to look for the presence of celiac. And, http://www.indianexpress.com/news/study-links-juvenile-diabetes-to-celiac-dise/3\ 97948/ Study links juvenile diabetes to celiac disease Type-1 diabetes and celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, share at least some genetic roots, researchers reported earlier this week. The findings may lead to new treatments for such autoimmune diseases, which are caused when the body's immune system mistakenly destroys healthy tissue. The results of the study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, also point to some of the same environmental triggers causing both conditions. " These findings suggest common mechanisms causing both celiac disease and Type-1 diabetes. We did not expect to see this very high degree of shared genetic risk factors, " David van Heel of St. Barts Hospital and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry said in a statement. The international team studied 9,339 healthy people, 8,064 people with Type-1 diabetes and 2,560 people with celiac disease. They found four celiac disease genetic mutations that also appeared often in people with Type-1 diabetes and two diabetes mutations that also appeared to raise the risk of celiac disease. Type-1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, is caused by the destruction of beta cells of the pancreas that produce the insulin necessary to regulate blood sugar levels. Celiac disease, also an autoimmune disorder, attacks the small intestine and makes patients intolerant of gluten. And here's another good one: http://autoimmunedisease.suite101.com/article.cfm/type_1_diabetes_and_gluten_sen\ sitivity <snip> Celiac Disease in Children with Type 1 Diabetes A study reported in The Boston Globe last December indicates that celiac disease and type 1 diabetes may share a common genetic link.Researchers found two type of mutations common to diabetes that might also increase the risks of developing celiac disease. In an article in 'Clinical Diabetes,' physicians Fasy an Umpierrez write, " Evidence of celiac disease is present in a high percentage of children at the time of diagnosis with type 1 diabetes, and these individuals typically develop celiac disease within 4 years of their diabetes diagnosis. " They further note that, " 16% have been shown to have positive antibodies, and of these, 6.2% had definitive changes consistent for celiac disease despite being asymptomatic. " Gluten Free Diet and Type 1 Diabetes in Children A Danish study reported by Hansen and colleagues placed children identified with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease on a gluten free diet. The researchers followed the children for two years. Children on the diet improved in weight and growth. The authors of this research note, " This population-based study showed the highest reported prevalence of celiac disease and type 1 diabetes in Europe. Patients with celiac disease showed clinical improvements with a gluten free diet. We recommend screening for celiac disease in all children with type 1 diabetes.
