I try to keep mine fairly straightforward too.

Fruits alone (or with nuts, especially if eating citrus); nothing else for one

hour

Protein... this takes longest to digest, about four hours.  I try to make my

lunches protein w/ veggies.

Starches... about two hours digestion; pasta or rice with veggies plus salad is

a common dinner.  This way, my dinner has processed before I go to bed.

Legumes are supposedly a way to reconcile starches into perfect proteins.  So if

dinner out is chicken and rice for example, I'll use nuts or beans or peas to

help them get along with each other.  ;-)   Whole grain bread with almond butter

or peanut butter is a favorite and substantial snack that stays within these

guidelines.  I have virtually no issues with digestion or gas with this

approach, and it actually helps me manage my weight too.

I've found another chart on the site of the Hay Diet and it is just a

list of three columns of food. You can combine list #2 with the foods

on either side but you should not combine list #1 with list #3. That

seems to be a lot more manageable to me. It's a two page list so I

cut the pages and taped the two lists together and I will peruse it

before every meal. i notice that it is recommended that fruit always

be eaten alone not combined with anything else because the digestion

time is quicker, oh I guess you can mix ripe fruit and bananas with

carbs.Anyway the results of this way of eating is so far very favorable.
