Guest guest
Sorry I don't know what the effects are from Sorbitol. I have given up products that include aspertame (or as I call it nastytame) because it cause arthritis like symptoms. I am using natural products like stevia and agave which are low glycemic an ok for diabetics to use. Gayle
Guest guest
I received an email saying that aspertame was originally created for use as an ant poison. People swore that it was the best ant poison ever...so I tried it on our ants that we had previously tried everything with and guess what..it worked..we haven't seen an ant since. Apparently it works on the ants neuro paths and they can't find there way back to the nest. So what does that say? I wouldn't use it for human use at all. No wonder we have so many mental problems with kids and adults these days when you consider all the " Diet " drinks they consume. Xylitol is worth considering using if you want a sugar that isn't sugar but is natural. Just google it for more info. Guest guest
Thank you, somehow it doesn't surpise me, and to think of all of the aspertame I probably consumed years ago before avoiding artificial sweeteners. Ugggh. You had mentioned xylitol as an alternative. I have to wonder about this also as it is toxic to pets: http://tinyurl.com/y947cj Will it be that someday this is found to be harmful to us also (?) Let's hope not at the rate I chew gum! -Michele , " Diana Moore " <thebowentechnique wrote: > > I received an email saying that aspertame was originally created for > use as an ant poison. Guest guest
Here is something I read about sweetners. I would assume that sorbitol is not good for you...especially when it is synthetic. She doesn't mention Agave anywhere in the book. It's one I have just heard of recently from a client. I use Stevia. Stevia Plus is best as it doesn't contain Maltodextin which is Extremely High Glycemic Index. Here's the excerpt: And Sugar, a simple carbohydrate, comes in many forms, not all of which you may recognize in an ingredient list: Glucose Fructose Sucrose Maltose Lactose Raw Sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar Molasses, maple sugar, honey, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup Synthetic sugars: sorbitol, mannitol, and xylitol In the process of being metabolized, these sugars rob your body of valuable nutrients; some of these, such as zinc, are essential for liver function. Sugar also inhibits your liver's production of enzymes needed in the detoxification process. You liver must go into overdrive to convert the sugar into fats such as cholesterol and triglycerides. Unfortunately, once the other liver has made this heroic effort, the fats may pile up in your liver and body - Thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. Sugar is also a favorite food of Candida, a yeast that can overgrow and not only bring on bloating and water retention but also stress you r liver. The yeast causes your sugar to ferment and form acetaldehyde, a neurotoxin that increases ammonia levels in your bloodstream and can damage the liver. In addition,m you liver must work overtime to detoxify the toxins produced by the fungal form of flourishing Candida, compromising the organ's fat-burning ability. pg 172-173 - Aspartame: Not only is aspartame suspected of stimulating insulin release and therefore counterproductive to your weight loss goals, but it also can damage your health. The mere taste of such a concentrated weetner appears to sen an instinctual insulin mechanism into place even though aspartame contains zero calories. Aspartame, marketed under the Equal and NutraSweet brand names, also has been shown to suppress production of Serotonin - the remarkable neurotransmitter that helps control food cravings. When serotonin levels plummet, those sugar and carb cravings skyrocket. And this increases the likelihood of binging and added pounds. Loading up on those diet drinks - sweetened by aspartame - can rob you of valuable chromium, a mineral needed for proper blood sugar function. Having an insufficient amount of chromium results in poor blood sugar regulation, which can lead to insulin resistance and increased carb tolerance. Stevia: Stevia is an herb used for hundred of years in South America bu Indian tribes of Paraguay. It is thirty times sweeter than regular sugar, is virtually calorie-fee, and does not feed yeast, nor does it trigger fat-conserving insulin production or raise blood sugar levels like other sweeteners. Taken from: Fat Flushers Plan: The breakthrough weight-loss system that : melts fat from hips, waist and thigh in just two weeks and reshapes your body while detoxifying your system. Guest guest
We use a Stevia called Pure Stevia Extract Powder by KAL. It's about half the price of Stevia Plus and is maltodextrine free. However;KAL puts out one calle Pure Stevia Extract Plus Luo Han and it does have maltodextrine. I carry around a little bottle of Stevia drops called Stevita Stevia and it uses grapefruit seed extract as a preservative. Great to have on hand in restaurants instead of other sweetners. Guest guest
Not to mention that Aspartame is extremely addicting....in muy opinion more than cigarettes...Splenda is worse than aspartame. Xylitol is synthetic and increases the bloodsugar. Guest guest
I would say any dog or cat eating massive amounts of any sweet would cause problems as the article reads. You also have to watch out as they often used Xylitol in sweets but read the small writing and for some reason they often will also add aspertame as well!!!! Make sure you read all of the minute writing on the back of lollies..especailly the ones that say sugar free. It is good to be cautious. Probably Stevia is your best natural bet. Guest guest
Stevia is also a plant protein,it is sweet and has no calories. Stevia normalizes blood sugar and can reduce the amount of insulin taken if you are diabetic. Because, Stevia also known as Sweet Plant is a plant protein, you can use it for beverages but not for cooking or baking. Because I make body care products as a hobby, I tried Stevia on my face. It was Great! I loved the way it tightened my skin. No, I didn't look 21 again but it sure does help! Guest guest
Okay, I'm going to get a little radical here.... why use anything to sweeten food/beverages? if you are cooking you can always use fruit juice in place of any liquid called for. If you are really having sweet cravings, why not just try some raisins, dried apricots, etc.? Guest guest
Sometimes the fruits you would use to sweeten are high on the glycemic index, feed yeasts etc. Stevia isn't known to do that. Granted other countries foods aren't as sweet as those in the USA. We are a country full of sweet tooth's! Yikes! Wisdom from Six Feet Under. Is there any documentation on that? I won't touch the stuff.
