Thoughts on Independence Day!

Since in your last Healthy India Digest you have

talked about " Thoughts 0n Independence Day " by Vikas

Nagpal and " It is India, Stupid? " , may I also give my

sincere thoughts about it?

They are deoicted in the following letter to editors:

Sir,

This refers to your editorially expressed hope that

the next 60 years will be better than the last (TOI,

August 15, 2007). But I don’t understand why celebrate

15th day of August? Are we so foolish that we

celebrate a day on which Mother India (Madare-Vatan as

Muslims call it) was mercilessly cut up and

partitioned after sacrificing the life of millions of

men, women and children..

All Indians love India as Mother India (Madare-Vatan).

Then how can you celebrate that day which should be

observed as a Day of Mourning?

I can understand celebrating 26th January as on that

day, the people of India got power in their hands

through their vote to run the country democratically.

The USA too celebrates only one day, the 4th of July

each year. Why can’t we do the same on the 26th of

January? Actually, 15th August should be observed by

“beating our breasts” so that no one can dare to cut

up India again.

Yes it is very sad that we had the partition. But in those pre-partition days some subversive political strategists went for the partition and the majority of the people of the country including the intelligentsia did not have any role in the partition. But the independence was achieved through the participation and sacrifice of the people of India. So it is proper that we celebrate 15th August for Independence. We may observe another day for mourning the partition.SM Acharya <smacharya wrote: Since in your last Healthy India Digest you have talked about "Thoughts 0n Independence Day" by Vikas Nagpal and "It is India, Stupid?", may I also give my sincere thoughts about it?
