Guest guest
Hi Janet, A combination of St Johns Wort, and Calendula Cream will provide pain relief and stimulate healing of any lesions. Also as Shingles is a virus that sits dormant at the nerve root of the spinal cord high potency B group vitamins will promote health of the nerves. Nutrients that boost the immune system Vit A, C, E, Zinc and lysine should also be included. She is living with my sister in central California, so I can't help her directly. I did suggest that she have my sister buy her some astragalus to boost immune system function. Also suggested calendula cream to go with the capsacin ointment she has. They have her on all sorts of nasty drugs, so she is nauseous and has headaches too. My dad died of a global heart attack last year and I think the stress has weakened her immune system. I am not sure what else I can suggest for her since she is taking so many drugs. Illnesses don't develop due to lack of some herbs. The develop from wrong thinking patterns, chronic stress, malnourishment, pollution, etc. While herbs can be very helpful, I don't think they address the root cause. They just deal with consequences of it. Resolving emotional/energy blockages, relieving chronic stress, finding individually appropriate diet will address the root cause. That was all assuming absence of serious genetic defects. Roman

Guest guest
There are not many meds that will penetrate through skin but MSM will. I read on one list, perhaps it was this one, that if you have a bad painful bruise you can powder an aspirin and mix it with diluted MSM and place it over the bruise. The MSM will carry the aspirin right into the bruise to alleviate the pain. This might be just the trick to carry the colloidal silver through your skin. I would take a small amount of colloidal silver and mix MSM into it until no more MSM will dissolve in it. I would definitely take regular colloidal silver also. That will build up your immune system. As I understand it, shingles are brought on by stress but normally only when your immune system is low. I hope this will help you. It is something to try. If it works for you, please give us an update. Harvey - Muriel Schmidt Thursday, September 16, 2004 7:12 AM Re: Shingles \\reply... Guest guest
Reply-- I did not have such a good method of using the colloidal silver, but am starting this regimen at once, and taking small amount of MSM along with the deer velvet to facilitate my shoulder dislocation.. . ( which is the stress I personally caused myself, but stupid swan dives, at age 84,, NO excuses, but, simply not watching where i put my feet, and did this 3 times, just to make sure i really nicked that shoulder , but good).... The shingles was probably brought into full play when I took ( stupidly) a pain pill that had codeine, caused stomach retching immediately, and it was downhill since then for the SHINGLE thingy... This is the 6th week of the Shingles, and there might be a rundown no matter what treatment, so this is not going to be a very good test.. But, am on my way, and will send reports... Guest guest
Hello - Once the shingles are advanced, there's not a lot that can be done for the pain. I recommend chiropractic adjustment, preferably light-force work. However, the lesions can be treated externally and internally with colloidal silver. If you put it on topically, it dries them and helps with pain. I have recommended this to people and they said it was the only thing that helped. You don't have to make your own, just buy a good quality colloidal silver (such as Life Force) at the HFS and it will be better than any OTC or rx meds you can get. Guest guest
Shingles is a form of the herpes virus. Melissa Officinalis (Lemon Balm) works as an anti-viral. I know several folks that have used the essential oil mixed into a lotion base for Shingles. Also, lemon balm makes a great tea, and taking it this way could also help. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en & lr= & q=Lemon+Balm+for+shingles Here's a link for the search I did.....it will give you several sources for how to make the tea and how to use as a topical application. Guest guest
I don't know about any Chinese herbs for shingles, BUT I get them about 2 times a year and use the amino acid Lysine. I take 1000 mg as soon as I notice it coming on and continue with 1000 mg. 3 times a day for at least a week. It works better and faster than prescription Valtrex which costs about $300 a week if you have no insurance!! I believe that if you research the reasons why this works, it is because you have too much Argenine in relation to Lysine in your system. You are also supposed to avoid things like peanut butter and chocolate. You can also by over the counter ointments that contain lysine as well. Also, my mother-in-law came from France and brought me some homeopathic meds....I used them the last breakout along with the lysine, and it was almost gone the very next day! I never got a full breakout! The homeopathic meds were rhus toxicodendron, apis mellifica, and vaccinotoxinum. Hope this helps.
Guest guest
Dear Meredith, My first thought is to vent the shingles out using herbs like Chan Tui, Niu Bang Zi, Ge Gen and Bo He. For itching consider Jing Jie, Fang Feng and Bai Ji li. But of course, rule #1 is to determine the patient's pattern and treat him and not the herpes zoster! If indeed there is toxic heat, then of course, clear it with herbs like Ban Lan Gen, and Lian Qiao, or a formula like Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin. Guest guest
I'm sorry, you're right! Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin is not indicated for toxic heat in the legs. I have used it successfully to treat shingles, but affecting the face. The cases I treated were each wind heat with toxic heat. However, shingles in the legs I would suggest would probably be due to damp heat combined with toxic heat and affecting the liver and/or kidneys. Remember that PJXDY treats toxic fire (primarily) and clears wind heat (secondarily). I might therefore, use the herbs in it that clear heat and relieve toxicity: Huang Qin, huang lian, lian qiao, xuan shen, ban lang gen, and gan cao, and depending on which channel it is most affecting, add envoy herbs like huan niu xi and du huo if primarily affecting kidney, or combine with Long Dan xie Gan Tang if primarily affecting the liver. Guest guest
A tincture made from fresh Cow Parsnip (Heracleum maximum) works really well on shingles. My mother just had shingles and used medication from the DR that works on the virus and Cow Parsnip tincture. Cut the tincture up to 50% with spring water and rub it on the shingles themselves. Then put full strength Cow Parsnip tincture any where there is nerve pain. My mother started feeling better with in 24 hours of using the tincture. Had a full recovery in 3 days. She did follow through with the RX but felt the tincture is what helped the shingles go away and eased the pain. Katu
