I would think that we all make our health way too complicated. It would seem we were created to be healthy and our natural instincts are to drink when we are thirsty and to eat when we are hungry. I think if we watch small children (ones who haven't been inudated with tons of junk food) and notice what they eat and when, you will see they do not overeat or eat any one particular thing too much. I notice most of the time my youngest (who's 3) drinks lots of water....but every so often, he prefers juice. He also goes through days when he wants mostly nuts or fruit or carrots...then suddenly one day he will want chicken or soup. He is in extremely good shape and is very healthy and lean. I think we were meant to eat things in their raw state when possible and to help promote healthy teeth, we need to eat crunchy things, which most veggies are when they are in their raw state. I think we only need milk from our mothers when we are babies and no dairy after that. After all, all animals were designed that way. Not that we are animals but we are living beings designed to have our needs met easily from things grown on the Earth. I think we were designed to get our physical bodies in shape and keep them that way by having to grow and sow our food. Life is so complicated now and with our incredible technology we have evolved ourselves into unhealthy soft out-of-shape people who think nuking our food is quick and easy. I know what I am saying sounds like some hippie from the sixties who is thinking like a natural commune way of life but really I think it is possible today without the whole freaky hippie side efffects. If we can't grow our own food then we can buy it locally and get organic whenever possible. I think raw is the best choice and slightly steamed or quickly stir fried is a good second choice. Juicing can be a great thing to do to get the nutrients we won't otherwise get on our own with normal eating. I think it's just one of the things you do not the only thing you do. I have been radically changing the way I eat lately and I am feeling better than I have since high school (and that was a long long time ago) I eat very little processed foods like breads or pasta and mostly eat only fruits and veggies. I take several supplements and make sure I never miss taking the fish oil caps. I am feeling so much better. I was a total junk food junkie. I used to make Rosie O'Donnel look like a health freak with my food habits. I think I lived on Pepsi, chocolate, pasta and french fries for years. If I can change this much then anyone can. If you're really feeling sick and are sick of feeling that way, then give this a try. I've heard pro and con on juicing. Seems that juice that can get absorped most quickly will hold more nurients as the digestive enzyme action of the system doesn't have so much time to break it down.. But then there's also a school of thought that a truely healthy body needs the fiber for proper intestinal workings? So because much of the info about juicing I've come across is mostly available from companies selling juicing machines, and because my common sense/intuition works for me, I juice a few times a week only; that's mainly because I have colon issues that require vegetable fiber to overcome. However, when the body is very sick, ie., cancer etc, juicing only has proven to be beneficial in recovery as stated on www.drday.com So I'm open to hear more about juicing vs the body's need for fiber. He said that fibrous, bulky juices take as long and, just as important, consume as much energy in the process, as eating foods whole and unjuiced. If I did not feel Lewis Labs Lecithin was the absolute best lecithin I have ever used (from the taste & consistency perspective), I would probably not buy their products based on the shambles of a website they have. I have been using Lewis Labs Lecithin almost daily for nearly a quarter of a century so I am a real fan of their products. Guest guest Posted January 1, 2002 Report Share Posted January 1, 2002 I continually keep having to scratch my head over the myriad differences of opinion regarding most any aspect of health & diet. I suppose for folks with certain conditions, what your doc told you would be important. But for me & most folks I know, we get plenty of calories each day, so I have no worries about fibrous juices taking more energy to digest. In fact, as a diabetic, slowing down the absorption of sugars is a good thing. I am not starved for vitamins, so waiting an extra half hour or hour to get vitamins from fibrous juices into my system is no big deal. Kinda like taking time release vitamin pills. I will freely admit that my morning " fruit goop " & my " veggie glop " from the vitamix is not nearly as pleasant as clear juice would be, but I have learned to live with " drinking sludge " (as my ex-wife calls it) because of the benefits I get from consuming whole fruits & veggies. I am by no means putting down those who choose clear juices. We all have different health concerns. For me, adding fiber to my diet & slowing down absorption of sugars is a good thing. My doctor, who follows the natural Hygiene school of healing and eating, prescribed the making of thin juices, because they enhanced healing and provided accelerated nutrient absorption for little cost of digestive energy. Do you know why? Of course because they taste so good. The reason they taste so good is that they are full of sugar. I would definitely advise limiting juicing all underground vegetables to decrease adverse insulin responses. Was it Pogo who said " We have seen the enemy and he is us " ? " Of course, my whole diet was a good one at that time, so my digestive tract and sugar metabolism were normal. What it is advisable or inadvisable to do, nutritionally, or in our diets, is very different when we're seriously ill compared to what we can do when we're in good health. I suffer from angina, which makes walking briskly, painful. He may have concerns about carrot juice; but, in his current e-mail alert, he claims to be able to proove the existence of the " soul.
