Dear sri vaishNava

perunthagaiyeer,

We saw in the previous post, how

the raagam 'vijaya sree' or sree vijayam is given by thyaagaraaja to the krithi

'vara naaradha'. It is because raamaayaNam is 'seethaayaas charitham mahath' –

that also we saw. But this glory of seethaa, if said by vaalmeeki, that is

somewhat 'not a great thing'. If the same thing comes from the enemy camp – say

raavaNa's camp – one from raavaNa's men - then it is worthier.

Maareechaa, while resisting the

desire of raavaNa to abduct seethaa, says that she is great.

apramEyam hi thath thEjO yasya saa janakaathmajaa |

na thvam samarthah thaam harthum raama chaapa aasrayaam vanE || 3-37-18

Meaning: Which Raama's wife

is Janaka's daughter that Raama is indeed of an inestimable resplendence. And

it will be incapable of you to steal Seethaa, while such a Raama's bow

safeguards her in the forest, besides the firewall called her own resplendence.

[3-37-18]

A

note in the website is grand and quoted here or

reproduced here –

Quote--

This

can be said 'Raama's resplendence is inestimable and Seethaa is his wife.' But

keeping the import of Seethaa's words in 3-9-15 'if fuel is available adjacent

to burning fire, the luminosity of the fire also enhances immensely,'. When the

factor of resplendence is taken, it is not Raama's alone that is described, but

Seethaa's also.

Again,

it is not that some part of Rama's resplendence is taken out and put into

Seethaa.

It

is an indivisible radiance of that couple like that of Sun and his wife Prabha,

as said earlier by Maareecha.

[MGV

brings in that slokam for information of readers --

katham nu thasya vaidhEheem rakshthaam svEna

thEjasaa |

ichChhasE prasabham harthum prabhaam iva vivasvathah

|| 3-37-14

meaning: Raama's proper resplendence is protecting

VaidhEhi. How then you really wish to forcibly rob her off from Raama, as

though wishing to rob the Sun of his resplendence.]

quote

continued -- Seethaa is not directly said by her name. Her father Janaka's name

is brought in, because Janaka is both a raajarshi- Kingly-saint and brahmarshi -

Brahman-sage, as well. And Janaka is capable of saying 'idam brahmam idam kshaatram shaapat

api sharaat api' 'here is Brahma-hood and here is Kshatriya-hood,

either by malediction or by arrow, whichever meetly of you, you can confront

me.'

This

apart, it is said that 'a pertinent devotion to a god makes the devotee like

that god alone.' shraddhayaa

dhEvO dhEvathvam asnushE and Seethaa is the devotee of Raama and

thus she became one with Raama. Thereby, there is twofold resplendence, namely,

that of Raama and that of Seethaa, so it is not apt for you to make any useless

effort when everything is firewalled.

point: Maareecha continues in his

advise to raavaNa –

thasya vai narasimhasya simha uraskasya bhaaminee |

praaNEbhyO api priyatharaa bhaaryaa nithyam

anuvrathaa || 3-37-19

meaning: That lady Seethaa is his wife, dearest than

the lives of that lion-chested lion-man Raama, and in truth, she is avowed to

follow him alone, in perpetuity. [3-37-19]

Comment:

dear bhakthaas, see the words of maareecha – seethaa is 'narasimhasya simha

urakasya bhaaminee' – the lioness or the dear wife of 'narasimha' – the lakshmi

of narasimha – maa of maalOla – and her glory is 'apramEyam' and she is

'nithyam anuvrathaa'.

On this word 'anuvrathaa' the

thilakam commentator says

"nithya anuvrathaa ithi anEna

thasyaah thath sakthithvam soochitham

– by that word here, seethaa's

power is indicated".

To such a seethaa and her

husband, it is desire of vaalmeeki to bless them. So it is 'maanishaadha' to

'kaama mOhitham' –

maa nishaadha prathishThaam thvam agamaH saasvatheeh samaah |

yath krouNcha mithunaath Ekam avadheeh kaama

mOhitham || 1-2-15

Meaning: Oh,

Goddess Lakshmi's abode, Oh! Vishnu, by which act of your killing one male

demon named RaavaNa, who, in his passion abducted Seethaa, and thus you

eradicated the vice from the earth, for that you get an everlasting divine

sanctity, as Raama, for ages to come. "

Point:

It came so spontaneously – because what naaradha gave as abstract was rolling

in his heart – that desire came out as a song – as a 'pallaaNdu' like

periyaazhvaar.

So son 'vara naaradha' gave the

gist to vaalmeeki. Then father brahma came along with wife saraswathee and

asked vaalmeeki to sing raama kathaa and asked him to keep whatever he has

already uttered as the first slokam. That means the whole family naaradha,

brahma, and saraswathee were the kickstarters for raamayaNam.

Let us continue in next post
