Dear All,

In effect any thing that is supported by Dharma is OK. Sacrificing one's Life for another (person or country), if sanctioned by Dharma is the highest form of service. On the other hand when the act of taking one's Life is done in a selfish way, it becomes Adharma and the consequences are drastic.

Aurobindo has mentioned specifically that those who commit suicide will carry that propensity into the next life and will have a tendency to repeat this act. Gift of Life is the most precious gift that can be given and received. To throw that away, however difficult the going might be, is indeed a monumental tragedy.

Let us also not confuse "Samadhi" with "Suicide". A Yogi who gives up his Life does so due to the unshakeable knowledge (not just faith) that the Body is the one that dies but the Soul lives on. So he is infact "looking forward" to the freedom that comes without the Body, to carry on his spiritual adventures.

The "Bhogi" who commits Suicide is trying to "get away" from Life since he/she feels it is unbearable. A great mistake indeed, since atleast with the Body one gets a chance to work out ones Karma, however difficult it might be.

I have seen both extremes. In working with a non profit I have seen brave women carry on with seemingly endless ordeals that would completely crush most humans. These are the "real" Mahatmas, exalted souls who live amongst us, silently.

I have also seen a young couple commit suicide because their parents refused to approve their marriage. Both intelligent, educated from upper middle class families leading comfortable lives. Such is the tragedy of Life.

You are right in mentioning below :

I think the act is governed more by Ketu combination with the afflicted luminary.

Rahu may denote the neans to act - like poison, suffocation etc.
