Nisargadatta , "douglasmitch1963" <douglasmitch1963 wrote:>> Nisargadatta , "duveyoung" <edg@> wrote:> >> > What's not cutting it as far as you're concerned with the Cosmic Ego concept? What seems jarring or missing or illogical?> > > > Edg> > > Doug: "I am" already contains the concept of being the cosmos. No adding it after the death of the body. The body is the food for consciousness. Once the food is gone so is the consciousness of that food body. There is no longer a bigger body to identify with.Edg: Gotta disagree. I think one can identify with God's ego, the Cosmic Ego, enough so that one can then let go of the less glamorous individual ego. The body can then die, POOF! -- but the identification process will have move the spirit to another abode -- that is, one recognizes one's greater status instead of deluding oneself that one is a small body. This happens when the individual ego gets so jiggy with operational subtleties that the boundary between one's body and the universe simply becomes too arbitrary and, er, one's "spirit" as if "expands" to the status of inhabiting the "Cosmic Body."If we shake hands, there's no way, except arbitrarily, to tell where your body's quarks end and mine begin. That's straight physical law....scientific wisdom. On that quark level, if one's sensitivity to manifestation is able to see this level's truth clearly, then POP goes the weasel, and now one's stuck in God Consciousness. Now there's a prison! How'd you like to have to give up all the siddhis? I can't even go without cable TV! An unenlightened saint will be attached to sattva -- that is, sold out to creationism's sweetness. Uck! This is merely being angelic. However, the enlightened saint has been freed, and these guys come in three differing varieties: 1. Beginner saint: his individual ego knows his Identity, the Absolute, and is humbled by the fact that Elvis, the Absolute, is in the building. Elvisness is an all time reality even during deep sleep when the individual ego is silent, but all of manifestation yet remains as a cacophony and can be quite challenging since that which one now IS no longer is doing the listening....yet there's a listener pushing the buttons on the car's radio. Now, Elvis doesn't drive; he's got a robot limo driver, ya see? The beginner saint, free but witnessing a mind in such noisy turmoil begins to evolve in the relative -- he's got the Absolute down pat, but the relative can still be improved. 2. So now, in huge waves of love, the beginner saint begins to appreciate the finer levels of creation until finally all is within his ken by his having loved every speck of it. That's 2. God Consciousness -- everywhere/when you look, you see God -- that is: recognize the Sacred Presence's vibes at the basis of all things. Now, the 2. accomplished saint is no more free than a 1. beginner saint -- both have the maximum amount of freedom and have the Absolute as all time realities, there's no chance at reattachment, no reincarnation, but type #2. saint has got entirety at the end of his yoyo string, and there is no more confusion, no more noise heard, only harmonious variations of OM. What more can be accomplished? 3. The fully enlightened saint no longer seeks for more -- the seeking of the body finally ceases. That is: all desires are now seen clearly as rivers flowing into the ocean of fulfillment -- seeking can end when all desires are fulfilled. And so, 3. Unity dawns when that which was seeking now becomes quiescent and, finally, at last, the ego is silenced for good. Now, even Brahma will be found praying -- praying to that which you are, Identity. There's your enlightenment primer. It's all there in Nisargadatta's statements, but usually he's talking about 3. Unity -- not the lesser states of enlightenment. Not knowing these delineations can get one goofyass with all kinds of wrong-headedness about Nisargadatta's truths. Take heed you scholars out there -- it's not a matter of understanding so much as it is a process of saturation -- dues must be paid -- gotta dwell on attributes if you're going to be a educated intellect. It is possible for a teacher to contradict himself, if you take words said in

one context, and compare them with words said in a different context. It is

likely, in fact, if he or she talked to lots of people in different contexts.

There is no such thing as a formulation of truth that will give people what the

truth is, in all contexts, and for all time.

So, teachers will contradict themselves.

Thus, don't look to any formulation of ideas and words as an all-time passage

way to truth.

This includes " there is no reincarnation " as well as " you will have to

reincarnate ... blah, blah, blah. "

Different words, different occasions, life goes on.

Life is change.

Awareness isn't a static something.

You can't go from a set of words to what is so because what is so will fit with

the words.

Doesn't work like that.

Doesn't matter how great or smart or loving or wise the supposed teacher was, or

the words are.

Yes.

And don't believe your own self as authority, either.

As awareness is.

Consciousness is of the body, and arises in and through awareness.

So, don't be fooled by your own consciousness, either.

And then one realizes that there is no authority.

Not in another.

And not in one's self.

It's actually not possible to identify with anything.

You can't identify with your body.

See?

Can't be done.

Identification requires someone existing to do the identifying " with. "

Taking one's feelings as the authority, is still having an authority.

And having an authority is still investment in having something, in security -

even it it's a crazy security.

Authority: " Author " - ity.

Someone who is writing the story. Someone directing things.

Indeed, there is no authority. Everything is just happening.

No one is driving the bus.

" Who's driving this nondual bus? I went up to the front of the bus, but no one

was at the steering wheel " ;-) (old posting from Dan to Jerry Katz).

There is no such as awareness in which consciousness arises. This is a nonsene

in which Niz was believing.

It is a wide spread error when repeating nonsense again an again it slowly by

Werner, not that it matters, but just for amusement sake, what would you say

if I showed you a dialogue from krishnamurti where he points to the ground

of being...a ground beyond consciousness?

Hey Doug,

Can you please show me were I wrote that this place is inspired by Niz ? If you

can't, it doesn't matter.

But let me ask you does for you 'inpired by Niz' mean to switch off your brain

and stop thinking, inquiring and questioning ?

If not, then we can meet. But if you have thrown offboard your brain how could

we meet ?

Surely, Doug.

But it's not really a trap, if you don't make it one.

You're entitled to make any interpretation you feel like.

And your interpretations freely change. Or not. However it goes.

For me, the nothing that Nis. called absolute, can't be messed with.

This is where Nis. said he " took his stand. "

So, I would say, " this can't be messed with. "

Nothing doesn't incarnate, is ever unborn, so can't reincarnate.

It is nothing while this body is living and breathing, and is nothing when the

breathing of this body ceases.

As for " reincarnation " - clearly there never has been any separable existing

being who reincarnates.

So, for me, stories about reincarnation are derived from a felt-sense that I've

been here before.

And I am has been here before.

Innumerable times.

And will be again.

Only, there never is a really existing I am taking the stage.

So, it is empty.

As I am is empty, nothing is.

And it is not a nothing that lacks.

It is not the nothing of an absence, or of something missing.

Pristine nothing.

Perfectly nothing.

Is-ing nothing.

If you believe you exist, you will reincarnate.

That is, the feeling someone is here, will return.

So, the feeling of being here, will be here again.

And if it isn't here, then who is the witness of that?

Nothing can be said.

;-)
