Namaste,

Without Sadhana it is not the same thing strictly speaking. Advaita

as such is about Sankara and Gaudapada and the Mandukya Upanishad.

Much neo advaita is just really intellectual nondualism, or verbal

non dualism. It can only rotate in the vortices of the mind in never

ending circles unless the samskaras are removed by Sadhana....Dingo.

What Neo-Advaita gives in fact boils down to the seductive formula

that " there is nothing you can do or need to do, all you have to

know is that there is no one there. " ...

The fly in the ointment is that there still has to be someone there to

know that....and that is the someone that is the fly.

The spell has to be broken in a whole different dimension.

One has to circle up over the orb and learn a whole new language.

The error in this formula is that it artificially divides knowing from

doing.

Knowing, as spoken of here, is a doing.

If you are knowing something, you are retaining it, which is a doing.

If you speak spontaneously in a context as it presents, you will say

what is adequate to the moment. You won't assume some formula (e.g.,

" there is no one here " ) is the adequate truth statement covering all

moments.

There isn't such a truth statement, never has been.

The truth is what is, not what can be retained about it through a

cognitive formula (including a formula like " the truth is what is. " )

There is no such thing as " the way it is " in this realm of discussion.

This is not like physics where a description of " reality " can be given.

Your comments above *could* be read by someone as a description of

" the way it is " . So it is important to be careful not to mislead.

This realm of discussion is what in Buddhism is called " skill in

means " . There is no one way, there is no right/wrong when it comes

to skill in means.

When you say, " One has to... " that is not absolute. There are many

many approaches.

Good. Glad to hear you say that.

So if A says, " I have been feeling distressed about X, "

and B says, " Try just being in the moment with the feelings

of distress. Just abide and witness the feelings, experience

them in minute detail. "

What have you to day to B's recommendation?

Yes.

And self-reference is never accomplished.

At the same time, there is always only self-reference, because there

is nothing else to refer to.

Perfect self-identity at all times, all places, and in all experiences

is the same thing as no identity.

Well, first of all, it all depends on the situation, and on A and

where A is coming from, and on B and B's relationship with A, and

maybe even on X and who X is.

So, by taking the words out of context and making a pronouncement

about them, I am making a mistake.

Having said that --

if I were A, I might feel like B hadn't really listened to me, just

offered me some kind of generic advice. I might feel that this is

more to A's benefit than to mine.

B rushed quickly to give me an instruction -- and receiving an

instruction that hasn't been asked for often comes across as a way of

distancing, maybe even a kind of superiority placing the recipient

one-down.

If B were simple and direct in a way that let me know that B heard --

I might like that. " Wow, yeah -- you look distressed, " perhaps. Or

.... " would you like to tell me more about it? " maybe. Or maybe some

commiseration, like, " Yes, I know X and X has distressed me at times,

as well. "

If B were a Zen monk, maybe B would turn around and walk away.

And if A were into Zen, maybe B's response would be perfect.

But I'm not into Zen that much. ;-)

Yes, and that language is not the language, but the way. And the

question is not who or what but how-now. And the time is not when, or

why, or which, but this eternity. It is only in the way that

non-(self/other) is no longer " hidden, " where all is already, and has

always been, the perpetual state of revelation. Here all is, all are,

already ultimate.

unless it's an echo of words of certain others, or a mockingbird's

return call of certain other's words....certain others will always

say 'it's' wrong.....for them, only they, their thougts and their

beliefs have merit or truth....and for them THAT'S TRUE......sad

isn't it? Vessels so full of old, fetid contents, and nothing can be

poured in to refresh and renew.......I loved you're contribution to

the stream and streaming thoughts passing through, jasondedonno......
