The Method instructed to us is as follows:-

Pratah Sandhya vandana nitya Anustana and if we have to rush to the

work getup after nitya anustana wash your feet complete madhyahnikam

then itself Completing the ritual.

Having a eye on the sishya may not be possible when the initiation is

hi-tek well through Audio tapes or Video Cassetes

Dear kumar,

Incase of busy schedule, one can perform madhyahnika sandhya in the

morning itself immediately after prAtah sandhya. Again achamana,

sankkalpa and the whole proces should be continued because tarpana,

and upasthana mantras would change. These are the words of veda

acharya in sringeri.

But during holidays, one has to do the madhyahnika sandhya at proper

time.

Dear SriRamji

Namaskarams

Two more related questions.

1. What about Sayam Sandhya in late hours? Some times it gets very late when

we return from office, say even 9.30PM/10 PM. Can Sayam Sandhya be performed

in full length at that time? Is there Shastra Pramana for that?

2. Secondly, I was told that snanam need not (rather, should not) be

performed in the evening before sayam sandhya, according to shastras. Only

two snanams are prescribed in a day and those will have to be performed in

Prathahakala and before Madhyanika only. - So do we directly start sayam

sandhya after changing the attire, returning from office?

- Will your answer to the above questions differ with respect to

Desaacharam? (Great if your can reply can fit a tamil smartha)

Please excuse me if these are wrong questions or if my interpretation is

wrong.

Paramacharyal says this too.

However, He also says that, this is a lesser solution as our choices govern our

action, there is always a choice of taking a suitable work that does not

interfere with our karmas, but that thought does not strike us including me :)

If there are noble people who can perform thrice, that is always optimal, if you

are going home for lunch then that is a good option

Dear vishwam,

You are absolutely right.

My gurunatha was a school teacher. He used to perform morning nitya

karma and panchayatana by 8:00 Am, used to have a glass of milk and

leave for school. He had a special permission from principal. Return

to home by 11:30 used to perform madhyanika sandhya and vaisvadeva,

have lunch and again back to school. Evening usual sandhya at regular

time alongwith agni hotra.

This was his routine. Never his missed his arghya and sakAla sandhya

(without prayaschita arghya i mean).

Such persons are my ideal and only such person's holy padukas i adore.

Dear venkat,

Sandhya if not performed within 3 hours of sunrise & sunset is of no

use. But still it is better to do it that to omit the ritual as Shri

Abhinava Vidya Tirtha swamigal pointed out. So, the best possible

option left out is Sayan Sandhya with Prayaschita Arghya.

As regards Snana, if you stay in home, the snana is not required. But

for office goers like us, we are in move with different people who

donot follow shoucha kanda (eg., ladies may be in their monthly

problems, contact of certain people who are patakas). So, constant

company of such people should be avoided. So, it is better to have a

warm water bath in the evenings as soon as you return from office.

But regarding the sastra pramana, one need not take bath. Because,

sandhya is a ritual that should not be omitted at any cause. Ravana

perform sandhya and arghya with sand when water was not available.

So, wherever you are, it should be performed, frankly speaking.

So, have a hot water bath in evenings, perform your sandhya with

prayaschita arghya. Samprokshana with Pundarikasha mantra is just an

apat dharma. If one is not well, one can perform the Bhasma snana

(which i mentioned in my post) and samprokshana with pundarikasha

mantra, one would become pure. This is a bhavana.

Sri Venkataraman-ji,

A family known to me follow strict adherence to their nityanushtanam. The

father performs sahasra sankhya Gayathri japam for every sandhya kalam. One of

the sons returns home around 11 pm invariably everyday. After that, he performs

Sandhya. Since he was not sure of the correctness of performing at such a late

hour, he consulted the Sringeri Jagadguru for clarification. Acharyal said,

performance, even if delayed, is better than nonperformance.

In Tamil with respect to sandhya, we say, " kanamal, konamal, kandu " . " Kanamal "

refers to the time when the sun has not yet arisen. " Konamal " is when the sun is

seen above our head, could be taken as vertically or diagonally. " Kandu " is when

the sun is yet to set and the stars are not yet to seen. Sandhya performed any

time beyond this will need to be accompanied with the prayaschittArghya.

Madhyahnika comprises of the purvahna and an earlier part of the aparahna kala.
