We know that in the 5th canto Srila Prabhupada stays true to the text of Srimad Bhagavatam in the slokas that mention the distance of the Moon from the Earth, but in this purport below he does recognize that the Moon is the closest planet.

SB 3.15.15 purport:

The modern scientists who are trying to travel in space are having difficulty going even to the nearest planet, the moon, to say nothing of the highest planets within the universe. There is no possibility that they can go beyond the material sky, enter the spiritual sky and see for themselves the spiritual planets, Vaikuntha Therefore, the kingdom of God in the spiritual sky can be understood only through the authentic descriptions of the Vedas and Purāṇas.

In this purport Srila Prabhupada acknowledges that it is possible to reach the Moon from Earth.

CC Adi. 2.35 purport:

The inhabitants of earth may be able to reach the moon, but the inhabitants of heaven can reach even the fiery sphere called the sun. What is impossible for man on earth is easy for the demigods in heaven because of their different bodies.

Here again Srila Prabhupada admits that scientists have gone to the Moon.

CC Madhya 19.138 purport:

This is a challenge to so-called scientists and philosophers who presume that there are living entities on this planet only. So-called scientists are going to the moon, and they say that there is no life there. This does not tally with Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's version. He says that everywhere within the universe there are unlimited numbers of living entities in 8,400,000 different forms.

BG 8.25 purport:

In the Third Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam Kapila Muni mentions that those who are expert in fruitive activities and sacrificial methods on earth attain to the moon at death. These elevated souls live on the moon for about 10,000 years (by demigod calculations) and enjoy life by drinking soma-rasa. They eventually return to earth. This means that on the moon there are higher classes of living beings, though they may not be perceived by the gross senses.

In this purport it states that the Lunar plane of existence of the Lunar world is not perceivable by the gross senses.

So, ever if the scientists did land on the Moon they would not have been able to enter into the actual lunar plane of conscious existence.

Here again Prabhupada explains that even if the scientist goes to the Moon they cannot stay there and live.

SB 4.12.25 purport

While the scientist and philosopher go to the moon but are disappointed in their attempts to stay there and live, the devotee makes an easy journey to other planets and ultimately goes back to Godhead.

Thanks for providing the quotes. The very term "Moon" could be also used by the Vedas to describe a category of planet and not a specific Moon. There are millions of planets and many of them have at least one Moon, Jupiter for example has four Moons. So in the same way there're millions of planets, there're also millions of Moons. Since in the Vedas everything is described as personal, Chandraloka, Chandra, the demigod who rules the Moon could be the ruler of all the Moons. In other words, Chandraloka is the original Moon, but every planet has its own Moon, which is an expansion of the original Chandraloka.
