Hi all!

I am wearing an ekamukhi rudraksh. My mother presented it to me. I wear it everyday. But, I really have no idea of what it can do for me or what I must follow.

I eat fish once in a while. I don't eat any other form of meat. I heard that one is not supposed to eat meat, drink alcohol or smoke tobacco when wearing a rudraksh. Is it true?

I would like to know the do's and dont's of wearing this rudraksh.

With warm regards,

Aparna.

Hi Aparna,

The rules , as read from several sources are as follows :

1. Keep the Rudraksha well oiled.

2. Remove the Rudraksha , during menstral cycles or sexual activity.

3. Remove the Rudraksha , before going to sleep.

4. Wear the Rudraksha after taking bath . during morning prayers, its a

good idea to repeat the seed mantra for the 1 mukhi . " Om Hreem

Namah" or "Om Namah Shivaya" 11 times.

5. It is okay to eat non-veg , so long as you dont feel guilty about it.

remember, guilt is the sin , not eating meat ( refer Geeta or

Dnyaneshwari for definition of sins ).

6. If the 1 mukhi is not giving you effect, try wearing the rudraksha on the

fore-head for half an hour everyday.

Please read my experience, it may be helpful for you on what you might want to expect.

In 2002 , I ordered a 6 mukhi rudraksha on the internet. just out of curiosity, since I had read so much , I was curious about it. I bought it from astrospeak.com, I was not even sure if the Rudraksha ordered was genuine.

When I received the rudraksha , I was pleasently delighted to see a well oiled , shining Rudraksha. I was so excited that I didnt say all the mantras given in the sheet of paper accompanying it. I just wore it around my neck.

After about 5 mins I felt a strong feeling around my jaw and cheek bones. I could feel my tongue being pushed to the palate. I felt very "solid" and heavy in the head. I felt like closing my eyes. I sat like that for 15-20 mins ..I was in office and was worried at the same time as to what was happening to me. I couldnt concentrate on anything but the extremly pleseant feeling in my head.

I felt it when I stood up , sat down, couldnt have lunch properly that day.

just felt like sitting in a place and relaxing and enjoying that feeling in my head.

After this experience I ordered many rudrakshas all from 1 mukhi to 14 mukhi, out of more curiosity.

However of all the rudrakshas only the 11 mukhi (when worn on top of the head) and 14 mukhi ( I am wearing it on my forehead right now ) could be compared to the 6 mukhi. The 14 mukhi and 11 mukhi are infact much much stronger than the 6 mukhi. The rest of my rudrakshas werent as strong.

I stopped wearing the rudrakshas continuously since sometimes that strong-deep feeling didnt allow me to think anything. It was always pushing me into a trance like feeling.

I would wear them for half an hour after bath during morning prayers.

I tried to find a lot of answers to the questions, as to what is happening , why a simple seed is sending me into a trance. I am not sure why this happens. Being scientific by nature, I searched all the wikipedias and read about human neurology, hormones. After reading all this, I can explain the heaviness induced by Rudraksha to be produced because of hormoes released from the anterior pituatary lobe. The anterior pituatary lobe secretes many major hormones in the body. One family of hormones secreted by this gland are endorphins . These are the "internal painkillers" of the body. They are known in medical community as endogeneous opiods.

I am not sure medical science has done enough research on these hormones. I am sure , they are a lot more than mere pain killers. I am continuing to do more research in this direction. I am sure I would be able to find a link between Yoga, Moksha and physiology.

Regards
