After a week, all ya feel is eighty bucks a week richer. Chew real licorice sticks. This is what I told the ginsing freaks 30 years ago in Maui. They can either spend 30 bucks for one ounce of Korean Panax Ginseng or buy a pound of licorice sticks from me for 30 cents and get the same effects.

 

Herb just enables an endorphin in your own being to release, causing euphoria. Licorice "tickles" the same channel. Just dont swallow the slivers, and dont brag about it, because someone will ban it if they find out.

maybe thats why. the AMA is worthless junk, false doctrine. Protein, testosternoe, useless, counterproductive. Ekadasi is a holy day because protein and testosterone is given a day off. Herb does that too, lowers the violence, reptilian part of our DNA. Licorice kills nagas that want you to live in the subterraneans with them, the talas, where we lose the little bit of esoteric we still possess, and out gross bodies are nothing but earth. You think we are stuck now, wait until you get the tala-tarang.

 

This is where the hippie term, lighten up, comes from, get rid of that protein-testosterone buzz that is the baqckpack of rocks we carry up the mountain.

Thanks, Prabhu. It was anything *but* Black Friday for me. Today felt the fulfillment of many lifetimes of strife and struggle.

 

After standing outside in the early morning cold while Gurudev gave Hari Nama initiations to 9 fortunate souls, to be asked into his private room and to hear the Gayatri mantra from his lotus mouth with 4 dear Godbrothers and (after the Brahma Gayatri) 1 blessed Godsister, then to proceed down to the fire sacrifice and the brilliant sunshine, then, to beg dakshin from the glorious Vaishnavas there assembled and to lay it at the feet of Gurudev, was almost more mercy than I could bear.

 

Of course, this is just the beginning of a new stage of the journey of service and purification.

 

May I become less offensive and more full of praise and respect for all the Vaishnavas. May I more closely follow the perfect example of my eternal master!

The whole philosophy is contained in the holy names, and by chanting these names, all mental speculation about the millions of things spoken about about the cosmos, the philosophical speculations about origins, all stop. In the name KRSNA, all is solved. If one believes in a particular slant, and the opponant believes in the opposite, if they sing the holy names together, there is unity.

 

Without the holy names, there is not only arguement that produces headaches, but actual loss of unity, animosity, which may serve to INCREASE our vocabulary, as seen by the new names we call those who dont accept us as guru, but fails to soothe the self, the actual cravings of the living being.

 

So, make a tape, put it on the net, then we all agree, we all are firends, and we leave the world of envy, avarice, one-upmanship, behind in the mire and muck of babylon, where it all belongs.

Well, back in 1999, I was living in a red-tagged (I had phone and electricity, but no running water) former chicken-shack up at "Gopa Dham" on Rodeo Gulch Road in Soquel, when I recorded a fair bit of music.

 

One project, Klim, was intended to be a fusion of devotional music and electric/electronic music (though the track below is mostly acoustic). Some friends and I got a handful of tracks recorded, but I never considered the tracks "finished".

 

Considering that I may never get a chance to finish this project, allow me to share some unfinished rough mixes with my friends here.

 

This one, we call "Mahamantra 408", and it features the incomparable Hari Vallabh Prabhu (I hope I'm spelling that right) on lead vocals, harmonica, and mridanga, while Phalguni Krishna Prabhu plays acoustic and electric guitars. I round out the mix on backing vocals, bass guitar, and percussion.

This one is pretty much a solo effort with flute (just a hair off-pitch), keyboards, acoustic guitars, an electric guitar solo, and karatals. Oh, that's right, Hari plays a bit of harmonica on it, and the second mridanga.

 

It's got a couple of strange glitches (just like me ).

totally wonderful, murali, this has made my day complete. I love the independently devised melodies, which my preceptors, Gaurasundara, Jivananda, and siddha, always encouraged.

 

dem your licks? The electric guitar thrown in the mix is totally awesome on the one titled vandana. I like them fostex units, great in "red tagged" houses, specially in soquel. Surfed there once, till I saw a great white. The waves werent worth it.

The "Klim" recordings were post-Fostex, though. They were recorded with Cubase software and the built-in audio of an old PowerMac 7500.

 

On Vandana, I played the lead. I'm not actually very good, though, so I just record lots and lots of takes, and then assemble the best bits of each into a composite.

 

I'm so glad you like it. Of course, I find nothing more inspiring to my own musical endeavors than to hear the fruits of a Godbrother's devotion (or even some really good "mundane" music). You inspire me!!

Here's another kirtana.

 

This one has Hari playing mridanga and harmonica, me on harmonium and electronics and me, Hari, and Malini devi dasi on vocals. We recorded 3 or 4 tracks of all three of us singing to get that big sound.

Of course, one misgiving I've had with this concocted melody is the "Kri-shi-na" pronounciation. Does anybody know if pronouncing Sri Krishna's name as three sylables is explicitly offensive?

Great stuff. The pronunciation goes right to the heart. Whatta band, gotta send this to tulasi and anthony. Music is what drew me to Krsna, and the "no hard and fast" ruling is what organic means.

 

This really reminds me of my experiance twelve years ago at the Island Reggaefest in Duncan BC. Many of the top groups were there, and the folks from berekeley, like the wonderful reggae goddess Della Grant, took Srila Prabhupadas lyrics to their dance hall stylee. Even gangsta rap works, in the earlier recording, the rappin "Gopala govinda rama madana mohana" really worked well, Im madly lookin for another tape where I have a multi mixed version of this song.

 

But this one I just heard is totally grand, thanks for sharing this nectar, murali.

some criticize home grown stuff, saying that only bengali stylee is okay. However, there is a case where the melody stays the same, but the instrumentation is different. There is a Prabhupada melody of hare haraya namah that has been put to exotic instrumnentation that works really well.

 

All sound comes from ether. Jimi knew this, and never took credit for what came out of his guitar. When the etherical mahamantra is added, the zero becomes greatly valuable. Prabhupada gives the musicians the words, they take it from there. (Nina Hagen, Chrissie Hynde, Bro George, Dylan, Petty, Donavan, ras michael). All glories to the hurdy gurdy man, if we could only be his monkeys. Rolly Poli, Rolly Poli, Poli Poli, the SOUND.
