BURJ DUBAI

The Burj Dubai is as of now going to be the worlds tallest structure and is scheduled to be completed on the 30th of December of 2008. When completed it will have a staggering (rumoured) 216 floors and 3317 ft. (In comparison that is almost two times taller then the proposed freedom tower in New York) As of January 14th of 2007 the building is already 105 stories tall and 1276 feet. That is already taller then the empire state building and the 8th tallest building in the world, and it's not even half way done.

Looks like a good location for opening a nice marble Radha-Krishna temple, although they say, no bookdistribution, please. Wonder if they are informed about the "danger of vedic bookdistribution."

Islam is the official religion of all the emirates. A vast majority of the people are Sunnis. There are foreign minority Hindus and Christians as well. Dubai is the only Emirate to house a Hindu temple. Non-Muslims in the country are free to practice their religion but may not proselytize publicly or distribute religious literature. The Government follows a policy of tolerance towards non-Muslim religions and, in practice, interferes very little in the religious activities of non-Muslims.

Seems like Prabhupada knew of such different country rules:

From CC Madhya 23.105 purport

The teacher (acarya) has to consider time, candidate and country. He must avoid the principle of niyamagraha-that is, he should not try to perform the impossible. What is possible in one country may not be possible in another.

The acarya's duty is to accept the essence of devotional service. There may be a little change here and there as far as yukta-vairagya (proper renunciation) is concerned. Dry renunciation is forbidden by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and we have also learned this from our spiritual master, His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Gosvami Maharaja. The essence of devotional service must be taken into consideration, and not the outward paraphernalia.
