namah shivaya!

Yes, the orthodox priests that one speaks too, are, well, orthodox.

The person in the book if I remember was just a pure simple hearted

regular person who felt compelled to take up japa. of course it is

japa, but an orthodox christian priest would not like sanskrit words

like mantra or japa.

Im always somewhat disappointed in the lawyer like approach of so

many priest in christianity, ...only their interpratation  is

valid..but Im am not criticizing anyone's approach if thats what

they cherish.

one should do only what one feels in their heart. I think any type

of japa to a holy diety is beneficial when your heart is in it.

The bracelets in Amma's Books say, "Om Christave Namah".  Maybe someone else recalls all the benefits of japa.  But, here are 2.  Japa tunes you in with the Divine & purifies your mind.  In an Awaken Children book, Amma told at least one devote, that mantra & selfless service were enough to bring him/her to the goal.

hope this may help one of AMMAs darling chldren...the name Jesus means

SAVIOR and it comes from the hebrew or galiiean aramaic word YASHUA.YASHUA

also means savior.SAVIOR as in saved by HIS GRACE.

remembering that we are saved by GRACE AND GRACE ALONE and chanting the name

that represents that is a powerful mantra in itself.the first mantra JESUS

gave us was JESUS,just as the first one that AMMA gave us was AMMA...

no matter what mantra AMMA may give this child ,the one mantra that will

always mean the most to his heart...is AMMA.even when we are not aware that

we are chanting, we chant AMMA.everything we do or say revolves around the

name or mantra AMMA...this is the same thing that happens with

JESUS..Christains even say "IN THE NAME OF JESUS",we do everything....thats

because the NAME JESUS is the closest name or mantra to their hearts...the

name JESUS represents ALL-POWER for a Christan so why would they chant

something else?

hope this child has served effectively.love you...

OM !

I had practiced the Jesus prayer for a little while before receiving a Jesus mantra from Ammachi.

So I don't think she would give the Jesus prayer out. The priest saying that the Jesus prayer is not a mantra.. is both true and false.

Its doesn't fit the concrete definition of a mantra, because its more based on the conception.. have mercy.. Its also suppose to be only

meditated and chanted to the heart. However the results are still the same as a mantra.. But at the same time, I believe Ramana's Maharshis

Parable of the mantra plays an important role.. (I'll paraphrase for I don't remeber exactly)

Maharshi "One day a King of the land wanted to learn of mantras, so he called his servants in and told them to find the man who could teach him some.

THey found a man who was known to have practiced them, and was told by the king iniate me. The man said that he was not of the stature to do such things. The king

furious, made him leave and found someone who told him what the words were. He made this man come back and said HA! I learned them anyway! The man replied well, it won't do you much good.

The king angry demanded an explination. So the man told one of his guards to arrest the king. They were both taken aback, the man kept telling the guard to arrest the king, even though the guard

woudlnt'. Finally the King furious told the guard to arrest this man. He did so, the man started laughing, he said, just as I had not the authority to arrest you, so be it the same with the mantra...."

Anyway. Here are some christian mantras ..

Om Christave Namah

Om Namah Chistaya

Yesu Yesu Jai Jai Namo

I have never heard the concept of mantras in any abrahamic religions. Mantras as such does not have power. Power is the mind of the person who has siddhi of the mantra. So the mantra diksha has to be given by a person who has attained sidhi. Otherwise it is just another word like what i am writing here.
