Guest guest
It is obvious that we have gone outside the realms of food for " food" and are discussing all aspects of esoteric Sattvic life style and inner peace. I need to make all of us aware of 2 things. 1) if you have visited East African Safari, you'll notice that all the vegetarian animals are frolicking together and they all trust each other. The Giraffes, the deer, the Zebras, the Buffaloes, .........., whereas the carnivores live singly and do not trust each other. Even those that live in packs, do not trust the other packs, who are out to destroy each other. One thing that needs to be understood, is that perhaps, vegetarianism breeds getting along and " living together". 2) A point was made that an average Indian is miserable. I do not think we can equate it with food. Misery may be from lack of jobs, lack of water supply, lack of electricity, from pollution, from lack of money to do things, from the " overly conservative social attitudes" that do not let average boys and girls mingle together, etc.....and may have nothing to do with food consumed, vegetarian or otherwise. 3) As much as I agree that we should protect the innocent and young, and for that matter any " dumb" animal, we cannot forget that we do not understand the "cries" of the vegetables, as they are being cut or cooked. Yes, millions of animals are sacrificed for the human need. It is alarming. But, with the same token, millions of vegetables are also destroyed for the same human consumption. 4) If what we eat now, will eat us in the next life, will there be human manure to feed the plants, or will there be carnivorous plants ? We have nearly made extinct, a whole bunch of precious vegetation. Who is responsible for that ? Eat, we all must. Perhaps moderation of eating with a more than a healthy respect for the food consumed, is the answer.
