  1. I think deity worship is fantastic in the sense that can make us more inclined to personalism. That is to say if someones goal revolves around personalism. So in the case of myself I think murti worship is certainly necessary for my spiritual progress. It reminds me of the form of God etc, and also I can do some seva to the deity easily and exchange moods with the deity etc. So it's a good practise for me and I enjoy it very much. It is very enjoyable to sit with form of God in front of you and speak with it. But ultimately depends on ones goal eh?!

  2. Bravo Ganeshprasad! I knew it just be a matter of time before someone came and posted the original scriptural verses. You have done great good for the readers of this forum!

In this way also Zaik Nakir (man in video) misquotes. It seems to be a common practise by these types of preachers to always misquote scripture in order to justify their insatiable greed and lust. Truly is despicable. But what is saddening is that there will be many hindus who will come and read those posts made by these cheaters and accept it as fact without investigating their validity.

Also Theist, your rebuttal is excellent too and truly combats the idiocy of the pro flesh eating propagandist argument above. Thanks very much.

  3.

Was it Maitreya Rsi who said to Vidura, " Krsna is within everyone`s heart and without as the Time factor."? In short, it`s only Krsna who will let us know we have reached Vaikuntha in time. Anyone who says it`s otherwise is hogfed.

OK that's fine. But please paste the whole quote. I just don't see the point in Krsna telling me that I am in Goloka Vrndavana if he is directly in front of me. That Krsna is in front of me should be clear enough in itself for me to understand that "Yes I am here with Krsna".

And also, if I am with him and I have come straight from the earthly plane would it really be of importance that this issue of my transition into the spiritual plane is discussed with Krsna. As a small gopa or gopi I would be much more interested in playing. I could see Dvarkavasi Krsna explaining this sort of thing but not Syamsunder Krsna. So this is difficult for me to grasp considering there is no Dvarkavasi Krsna in Goloka Vrndavana

  4. Wait I am not sure I understand what you're saying. I thought you were asking how can one know when he has reached vaikuntha. In your case specifically Goloka vrndavana. Well then I ask you, wouldn't it be the case that you open your eyes and see Krsna in front of you playing and then you go and join in? Wouldn't that be a clear enough indication that you've reached?

What is the use of relating with paramatma for gopas and gopis when their prayojana is directly in front of them.

Also I am little confused. I thought you were asking how can someone remember in vaikuntha that they had practised bhakti previously..

  5. Don't take my word for it. I am not so learned on this point. But I think at that point, if you've reached some Vaikuntha planet then knowledge of what you'd done in the past would be of no concern. Depends on your personality. Obviously if you have arrived in Goloka then all your daily activities would be bhakti so it would just be a matter of waking up or coming back to your natural constitutional position. Then you can assume that you had succeeded in your bhakti. Your every day would be immersed in bhakti it would just be a matter of switching over.

I too have pondered if it possible to recall past activities on the earthly plane. I haven't come across an answer yet. But I've read that it is like waking up and you just brush the past off as it were nothing and then you get back to your activities.

  6. Dear Kishore please remember that Jesus taught his followers according to time and circumstance. So he told his followers "I am the only way". He told this to his followers specifically. He didn't come to India and tell the Gopis this... He didn't tell Narada Muni this..

Don't feel bad about it. It is just their ignorance that they can't understand why Jesus was saying that in the first place. It's not that other relgious processes may have been false, it is just where he was teaching a lot of people were so stupid they couldn't understand many things so Jesus had to treat his followers like children and make sure they strictly followed him. I am reminded of that verse where Jesus tells his followers that their ears are too full of wax to understand what he is teaching.

Think of this hypothetical example. God is an ocean and there are many rivers leading to the ocean. These rivers can be likened to the different processes or relgions one can take to reach God. So in this way God is unlimited and almighty. He is known in all universes not just in this earth planet. And so he is also has many names too. With that said it we can understand that there are different processes by which we can reach God. Unfortunately not everyone has intelligence to understand this point. So better you not try and argue with these people who are not so smart.

Also remember, when you were a child your mother or father may have kept close eye on watching you. Telling you not to do this or that as a matter of protection. So if someone is not so intelligent or a bit weak we tell them they should just follow us.. So there's no fault with Christians or Muslims. They have to do their things according to their own level. Don't worry about it.

Muslims and Christians are very passionate, not so much interested in thinking laterally - so better to leave them be. And if they say islam and jesus is the only way to go to heaven.. that's fine. Why do you even want to go to heaven anyway? Heaven is still part of the material world and everyones stay in heavenly planets is temporary. As a hindu you should aim for bhakti only. And if you reach any Vaikuntha planet you have succeeded.

I think you should forget these people. Zakir is a cheater too. No use in trying to contact him.

  7.

Actually, a Hindu pantheist worshiping his demigod for whatever benediction is a much better person than some fanatic Muslim monotheist that wants to kill everyone that won't bow down before his ONE God.

These Muslim invaded India, destroyed the deities and temples and plundered everyone for themselves while claiming it was for Allah.

Some of the worst people in the world are religious people.

I am a theist, but this Islam religion really turns me off to religion.

The Christians are the other side of the Abrahamic coin of religious fanatics who want to impose their religion on the whole world.

A Hindu a pantheist is a much more congenial person that these Abrahamic religious fanatics who think they are the chosen people.

I can honestly say I share your view/sentiment. And I think many other people do too. But out of politeness this sort of thing isn't expressed openly, at least in public. I know well the history, it is indeed a sad one. India which was once the land of the free thinking had been attacked so violently and turned into a prison. I feel much sadness when I think about what has happened. And it is very sad when I see on the TV how India is becoming more and more Islamized. It sucks..

  8.

He knows his pavitra quran well.It is gullible people like you who needs to know.As per 'pavitra' quran you are an idolater and hence unclean.

quran 9:28 :o ye who believe! The idolaters only are unclean. So let them not come near the Inviolable Place of Worship..

And being an idolater you are a companion of hell fire

    as per quran

9:113 :It is not for the Prophet, and those who believe, to pray for the forgiveness of idolaters even though they may be near of kin (to them) after it hath become clear that they are people of hell-fire.

    and

21:98:Lo! ye (idolaters) and that which ye worship beside Allah are fuel of hell. Thereunto ye will come.

    LOLOLoll!

  9. I came across this Zakir Nair person a year or two ago. The person giving the lecture in the video...

A lot of the information he gives in his talks are groslly inaccurate and in many cases flat out lies. This man is known for giving the poorest expose on the Bhagavad-Gita.

Sonic Yogi is very right when he is advocating this mans attempt to spread propaganda which highlights a superiority of islam over Hinduism. In paritcular he says hindus are pantheists and they think everything is god. And then he says "us muslims believe everything belongs to god". So he makes these subtle false claims without explaining. And then of course all the muslims believe what he is saying is true and see islam as superior.

I had seen one or two vidoes were this man was challenged by hindus in the audience. They would call Zaik out on his nonsencial talk but the microphones would be quickly taken away from the hindu members of the audience and the topic would be changed.

Also it's amazing how he quotes so nicely from so many numerous texts. Many verses he quote don't exist and also his talks are preplanned - so he knows what he will quote. It's not that he can think of the right quote at any given time. His show is certainly a well orchestrated one. By wooing the audience with his clear ability to talk and by showcasing his brilliant mind he aims to convert those to islam. He is certainly a very intelligent muslim propagandist. It is just a shame he lies in order to push his movement.

There are plenty of websites out there that discuss his lying and propaganda tactics. Just search if you're interested.

Also let it be known, I do think his general talks of God are very nice too. Its just when he starts discussing other religions then he cheats.

  11.

The fact is that both Krsnah and Lord Caitanya are the original Personality of Godhead. No one should try to eliminate Lord Caitanya from Sri Krsnah. In His form of Sri Krsnah, He is the supreme enjoyer, and His form of Lord Caitanya, He is the supreme enjoyed. No one can be more attractive than Sri krsnah, and but for Sri Krsnah, no one can enjoy the supreme form of devotion, Srimati Radharani.

" Please rest assured that I have nothing to hide from you, " Lord Caitanya told Ramananda. " Even if I do try to hide from you, you are such an advanced devotee that you can understand all My secrets. I request that you please keep this secret and do not disclose it to anyone. If it were revealed, everyone would consider Me a madman. The fact which I have disclosed to you can not be understood by materialistic people. When they hear of this, they will simply laugh at Me. You can understand this yourself and keep it to yourself. From a materialistic point of view, a devotee becomes mad in his ecstasy of love for Krsnah. Both you and I are just like madmen. So, please don`t disclose these facts to ordinary men. If you do, they will surely laugh at Me."

Lord Caitanya then passed ten nights with Ramananda Raya, enjoyed his company and discussed the pastimes of Krsnah and Radha. This discussions between them were on the highest level of love for Krsnah.

Hey melvin, yeah these are very nice topics. And they nourish the heart so well. Actually I've almost finished reading a book called "The Origin of Ratha-Yatra". It's a compilation of lectures and discusses these kinds of topics. Please check it out, click here

For these kinds of topics its best to understand their importance and meaning with the help of archryas rather than try to figure them out on our own. And I'm quite new to these topics too, so I can't really comment - I wouldn't feel right.

Anyway, I think you'd enjoy that book. I read your comment and I had to share this.

  12. man Singh, you got your ass handed to you in this thread! Just goes to show, you can't defame Krsna - He'll some way or another put the shame on you if you're ill minded.

And FYI, actually noonedied in that battle. All the soldiers got liberation - only their bodies were finished. The soul is eternal you see. So all the soldiers, whether demoniac or good received liberation. God is so merciful you know..

  13. Hehe this is probably not accurate as what I'm about to say is from a movie. But in that bollywood film 'Jodhaa Akbar' he marries that woman who appears to be a Vaisnavi as it is made clear in the film that she's devoted to her. Also Akbar becomes vegetarian too.

Oh yeah I aslo heard one story from a devotee about how Akbar visited Vrndavan. He asked one baba for some seva and so the baba told him to fix one step. But then when Akbar saw the step he saw it was full of jewels. He went back to the baba and said "I'm sorry, but even if I sold all my kingdoms I would not be able to fix this step".

  14. NYC temple bomb plot foiled

WHITE PLAINS, New York - Four men arrested after planting what they thought were explosives near two New York City synagogues were disappointed that the World Trade Center wasn't still around to attack, a court has heard.

The suspects were arrested Wednesday night, shortly after planting a 16.78kg mock explosive device in the trunk of a car outside the Riverdale Temple and two mock bombs in the backseat of a car outside the Riverdale Jewish Center, another synagogue a few blocks away, authorities said.

Police blocked their escape with an 18-wheel truck, smashing their tinted Sport Utility Vehicle windows and apprehending the unarmed suspects.

Authorities said the men also plotted to shoot down a military plane.

James Cromitie, 55; David Williams, 28; Onta Williams, 32; and Laguerre Payen, all of Newburgh, were charged with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction within the United States and conspiracy to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles.

All the suspects except Payen appeared in federal court in White Plains on overnight, their hands shackled to their waists. Payen was expected to appear in court later.

Lawyers for the defendants, all of whom are US citizens, did not seek bail.

In arguing against bail, Assistant US Attorney Eric Snyder told the judge "it's hard to envision a more chilling plot" and described the men as "extremely violent."

They were "disappointed...that the best target (the World Trade Center) was hit already," he said, adding that the men were "eager to bring death to Jews." He also said Cromitie wanted to see what he did on TV and be able to say, "I'm the one who did that."

Earlier, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly spoke at a news conference outside the Riverdale Jewish Center in the Bronx.

"They stated that they wanted to commit jihad," Kelly said. "They were disturbed about what happened in Afghanistan and Pakistan, that Muslims were being killed."

Kelly said he believed the men knew each other through prison. They had long rap sheets for charges including drug possession and assault. During the hearing Cromitie told the judge he had used marijuana on Wednesday but was clear-headed enough to understand the proceedings.

An official told The Associated Press that three of the men are converts to Islam. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorised to discuss details of the investigation.

Payen, who officials said is of Haitian descent, occasionally attended a Newburgh mosque. His statements on Islam often had to be corrected, according to Assistant Imam Hamin Rashada, who met Payen through a program that helps prisoners re-enter society.

Acting US Attorney Lev L. Dassin said the defendants planned to shoot Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles at planes at the Air National Guard base in Newburgh, about 112 kilometres north of New York City.

The FBI and other agencies monitored the men and provided an inactive missile and inert C-4 to an informant for the defendants.

The confidential informant who broke the case told Cromitie that he was involved with Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistani terrorist group. It is one of several militant groups suspected of having links to Pakistani intelligence. Jaish set up training camps in Afghanistan under the Taleban and several senior operatives were close to Osama bin Laden.

Cromitie expressed interest in joining the group to "do jihad," according to a criminal complaint.

According to state Department of Correctional Services records, Payen was released on parole in August 2005 after serving just more than a year in prison for attempted assault in Rockland County.

Onta Williams served just more than a year in state prison for attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance in Orange County. He was released on parole in August 2003.

Cromitie has been in prison at least three times under three different names, prison records show.

He served two years on a drug sale conviction and was released on parole in 1991. Then, under the name of David Anderson, he spent 2 1/2 years in prison for selling drugs in New York City before being paroled in 1996. Under the name James Crometie, he was convicted of selling drugs in a school zone in 2000 and spent almost four years in prison before being released on parole in 2004.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Kelly met privately with congregants inside the Riverdale Jewish Center on Thursday local time.

Nancy Harris Rouemy said she was alarmed when she learned the news from a neighbour and definitely paused before dropping off her 4-year-old son at the Riverdale Jewish Center, where he goes to school. "However, the assurance is that the perpetrators were caught and my son wouldn't be in danger," she said.

"It is so upsetting," agreed her husband, Isaac. "If it was an actual bomb, it would be a disaster. It's not just a synagogue. It's a school and there are senior citizens who come here too."

The arrests came after a nearly yearlong undercover operation that began in Newburgh. The defendants bought a digital camera at Wal-Mart to take pictures of targets, they spoke in code, and they expressed their hatred of Jews on several occasions, according to a criminal complaint.

In June 2008, the informant, who was acting under law enforcement supervision, met Cromitie in Newburgh and Cromitie complained that his parents had lived in Afghanistan and he was upset about the war there and that many Muslim people were being killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan by US military forces, officials said.

Cromitie also expressed an interest in doing "something to America," they said in the complaint.

In October 2008, the informant began meeting with the defendants at a Newburgh house equipped with concealed video and audio equipment, the complaint said.

Beginning in April 2009, the four men selected the synagogues they intended to hit, it said. They also conducted surveillance of military planes at the Air National Guard Base, it said.

Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, issued a statement praising law enforcers "for their efforts in helping to prevent any harm to either Jewish institutions or to our nation's military."

"We repeat the American Muslim community's repudiation of bias-motivated crimes and of anyone who would falsely claim religious justification for violent actions," the statement said.

  15. Well I'm going to hell..

" For stealing a book one goes to hell for 100 years."

Actually I had stolen the Bhagavad-Gita, if I hadn't I probably wouldn't be sitting here today in such a forum.

Also I was amused to read this one: "Take coverings (clothes) of other men’s wives: run naked and chased."

    Did Krsna undergo this punishmnet?

  16.

But what if I don't understand?

    Or I get it wrong?

It's alright if you don't understand things right away or get things wrong :) It's not something someone grasps completely in a matter of days. That's actually why we take on gurus in our lives, they help us to understand these deep subjects. Also, there are plenty of learned people who are here to help aswell. So there's nothing to worry about. You'll be fine!

I would recommend reading Srila Prabhupada's version of Bhagavad-Gita first, you can find it online here http://www.asitis.com/

His version is most certainly authoritative and very good for people who are new to the Gita.

Therein he provides lovely purports which discuss many things you've been talking about so far.

  17.

    Hello,

    thank you for your post.

I still don't have an exact conception of spirituality.

All I know is that there is so many secrets in this world, and I'm willing to discover thos I can discover.

I haven't read any texts really, I'm just a blank paper.

I need guidance from where to start, because there is just too much information and I don't know with which to begin.

    Thank you.

Hi. Well at least you're honest. And you're in a nice position which can help you go far. So long as you remain your sense of humility you'll be able to learn all these things.

Some of the first basic questions you need to ask are:

    Who am I?

    What is life?

What is the meaning of life and/or its purpose?

    What is God?

These are first preliminary questions you'll need to investigate.

You can find these answers in the Bhagavad-Gita. Or if you can't get the book, start a thread? Ask all the questions you like in this forum!

    Hope this helps

  18.

    Hello everyone,

I'm a 20 year old Tunisian spiritual discoverer.

I'm new in the world of spirituality, and I'm seeking guidanc among you.

Spirituality is not something most people are intrested in from where I come.

Actually, rare are those who consider important and try to make their path through it, I haven't met anyone who can guide me in my learning processe.

The only way for me to know about spirituality is the Internet.

I'm already signed in many forums and I'm taking part in various discussion, but I haven't met anyone willing to guide me.

I want to know how could we find our spiritual teacher, the one that will help us out in a beneficial way.

    Thank you.

    Hi :)

First of all, why don't you share with us your understanding as to what you think "spiritual" means and what you think "spiritual life" is all about.

Share with us a bit about your background as to how you became interested in these topics. Also, have you been studying any relevant texts? Or have you just been mentally speculating?

And maybe don't worry about finding a spiritual master or guru just yet. As sant had said in his post; Guru comes when the jiva (soul) is ready. Usually someone takes on guru when he is a bit mature in his understanding and spiritual life.

    Hope this helps:)

  19.

    Please accept my apologies.

The Muslim extremists have a lot of faith too. A lot of faith mixed with a lot of ignorance and arrogance can be a very risky mix.

Now you jump to conclusions about how I view Srila Prabhupada's teachings.

I separate SP's core techings on Krsna consciousness from his personal opinions on various matters (including science and Vedic cosmology). I have never met him in person, yet he had a profound influence on my life for which I am very grateful. That however does not make me close my eyes and take everything he said as infallible truth. He was a very elevated Vaishnava but certainly not the only modern Gaudiya guru worth listening to.

Hey sorry if I came off a bit angry or hastily, I was dealing with some important tasks at the time and so I was projecting my frustration on to you. I didn't mean to do this.

"The Muslim extremists have a lot of faith too. A lot of faith mixed with a lot of ignorance and arrogance can be a very risky mix."

    This is a good point.

"I separate SP's core techings on Krsna consciousness from his personal opinions on various matters (including science and Vedic cosmology). I have never met him in person, yet he had a profound influence on my life for which I am very grateful. That however does not make me close my eyes and take everything he said as infallible truth. Yup me too. I more or less share the same position as you.

  20.

The problem is that people like you insist on "Prabhupada by definition is always right" being "Krsna's philosophy".

A lot of things Srila Prabhupada said and wrote were simply his sincere and honest opinions - and these opinions were sometimes not based on facts or objective knowledge.

Most people do not have a problem with SP not being an expert in every field he writes about. But everybody has a problem with his followers insisting that he was always right, even when he is obviously wrong, or when he contradicts himself like in the two quotes I posted above.

And that is why so many people rejected our movement and it's message.

No sorry you misunderstand my position. You need to understand the context of that last bit of my message. And you need to read it properly.

Specifically you're saying: "The problem is that people like you insist on "Prabhupada by definition is always right" being "Krsna's philosophy".

Actually you would read in my message that I'd separated what Krsna had said from Srila Prabhupada's purport. Also I'm not wanting to debate the issue as to whether Srila Prabhupada is correct in every case, I'm well aware that there are many interpretations for any shloka. But your arrogance to assume I uphold that sort of position (Prabhupada is always right in every case because that's Krsna's philosophy man!!!) is something else. You don't even know me.

What I was really meaning, there's no problem with SP's purport regardless if there is some error or not. Fact is, knowing about the moon or not is irrelevant - and with that in mind, when I was discussing with my friend I was trying to outline the situation like that. "There may be some problems in the purport, but still, you can make a lot of spiritual advancement if you just practise some of the main things". So when I say there is problem in his mind not with the text I'm referring specifically to his mind not being able to overlook that simple issue and just take to the practise of bhakti yoga. He said he was interested in spritual life for a very long time but when he became of aware that it was not some kind of "hum fum, woo ha" experience, and actually required determination, perserverance, and sacrifice he no longer wanted it and decided to try and break it from every angle - if he could at least do this then he could rationalize to himself the reasons as to why he didn't take it. He is happy with his Deepak Chopra.

And finally you also talk about how SP's followers insist he's always right "And that is why so many people rejected our movement and it's message."

Well I'm not part of YOUR movement and was never to begin with so your issue is not with me but with the lovers of SP. But do you really have that much of a problem with them? What's wrong if they have strong conviction of Srila Prabhupada? If I had the opportunity to meet with SP, a bona fide pure devotee I would accept every instruction he gave me and see it as no different from Krsna's philosophy. But until I have that opportunity, I'm in a fairly neutral position.

Those people you describe seem to have a lot of faith, which is wonderful, but not so much social vigilance.

Have you met Srila Prabhupada? How was your dealing with Him? Did He teach you about Krsna's philosophy? Some people I had met that had met with SP spoke that he was a very elevated person and what he spoke was Krsna conscious philosophy bearing in mind that there were also other bona fide teachers out there. But I think when those people were speaking of how SP and Krsna's philosophy was no different they were not thinking about moons, suns, and stars. They were thinking of topics of more substance ya know what I mean. And these people were certainly not part of your movement either and would be called as disfaithful to Prabhupada by your group as they went to take up other teachers once SP departed.
