  1. The duty of one state of life in one set of circumstances will not be and cannot be same as another. But our first duty is not to hate ourselves. We must have faith in ourselve to hav efaith in God. If you want a definition of duty then here is a rough one -- any action that makes us go Godward is a good action and hence our duty, any action that makes us go downwrard is evil and not our duty.Every duty is holy and devotion to duty is the Highest form of worship to God. The method you reccommende of worshipping Krishna is also our duty but we have to choose a means which iis good to do it. Many people mistake worshpping as doing a puja or offerinf something to god. Therefore a persom must set a goal for himself and achieving that must be his duty.
  2. whew !!! you are angry, aren't you.calm down and start with ttrying to change the bad environment aruond you .you can never get rid of the bad compltely. The goal of your life must be to work for the good and good only. That was what Krishna did .He knew what was good .He collected a group of people who he trusted and who trusted him.So his mission began. If you are on the good side then you will not feel used.therefore try to figure out your life and work for the good.
  3. I'am afraid to tell you that you are sadly mistaken. It is true that gambling is a vice and Yudishtira knew as much. But according to The Kshaatra Dharma or the rules of the Kshtriyas of the royal family , when a king or a royal member asks another or invites him to play a game of dice you cannot refuse him being a king.If you do, you will be considered a coward and a violator of the rules. So Yudishtira had to play the game of dice even though he knew it was a trick they were planning before they invited him and he also knew that they would make Shakuni play against him .You must realise that Yudishtira's every step will seem to be a wrong one at a glance. But when you study the subtle shades of Dharma you will know what a great king he was.If it was not for him , the pandavas would not have been as united as they were.It is not the question of a scale of one to ten.when a person does something wrong he gets punished for it no matter if he has a one or a nine on the scale.
  4. The main problem your wife is having is that she is worried about the results of her work- the fruits of her labour. The best you can do is advise her in 2 ways 1) If she believes in God , then tell her what Sri Krishna told Arjuna in the Bhagvadgita--- Do your duty and leave the rest to Me.Do not be anxious about the results. It is all in My hands to reward you according to the duty.It is the key to success. 2) If she does not believe in God , she has to believe in Herself .The Gita and The Vedas say that if a person believes in ten thousand Gods before him and he does not believe in Himself(his soul)then he is an atheist. Therefore the key to remove all anxiety is to do your work unnattached as the main goal of life or to do your work and leave the rest to the Lord. May you succeed in your work.
  5. the text that you are looking for is from the book "mahabharata" written by kamala Subramanyam. It is an excellent book. If you want to read Krishnavatara series then you should buy the Krishnavatar- the descent of the lord by k.m Munshi.
  6. thsi is a reply to the post in pg5. I think the reason for krishna not asking the pandavas not to insult Karna is simply that they would suspect him of knowing aa secret about karna that they don't. Please remember that Yudishtira suspected about Karna since karna's feet were like kuntis. Bhishma called karna a sutaputra even though he knew about his birth for the same reason. Both krishna and Bhishma keep quiet about karna and let the pandavas heap insults on him. this is because they knew that Karna would attain the position of sanctity after the Pandavas realise the truth. The more insults the pandavs heaped on karna, the more they repented after he died. Yudushtira lost his desire to rule the kingdom. Bhima and Arjuna became more humble after hearing his story. Nakula and sahadeva treasured the moments when karna had insulted them on the battlefield. The sense of guilt never left any of them. Karna got what he always wanted- the one thing he always wanted: everlasting fame.
  7. Karna was a victim of fate.As for one of you pointing out that he was unjust in insulting Draupidi and the killing of Abhimanyu , may I please say that during the time Draupadi was insulted by the members of the sabha, karna only pointed out to Draupadi about her duties as a slave.Even Bhima understood Karna's words and did not get angry on him. I think it is a tragic life that Karna led. He did not know who he was and he felt that Duryodhana knew about him better than himself.Duryodhana was the only one who seemed to have utmost faith in Karna. that was why Karna had to bear the burden of gratitude and hence he fought the great war according to his friend's wishes even though he knew he was going to die fighting.
  8. You must understand that His love is unconditional. We are all His children. We are the divine sparks of the great flame. He will love us because we are in Him and a part of Him.therefore there is no need to even think that he may not love us .
  9. Although Bhanumati ( Duryodhana's wife), is not exactly a well known character in the Mahabharata, she has a very close relationship with Krishna as his adopted sister. In the series of Krishnavatar written by K.M. Munshi he wonderfully describes the relationship of Bhanumati and Krishna who was reminded of his Gopis whenever he saw her.Mr. Munshi has portrayed the character of Bhanumati as a loving woman , devoted wife and a wonderful adopted sister.

  11. It is amazing how Sri Krishna quotes that the path of Bhakti is the easiest of the 3 paths and even then we find it very difficult. But once you fix your mind upon HIM you will start talking to HIM , later you learn to live your life only by following what He says and before you know it , you would have merged in HIM. your life will seem to be a bliss when your mind is filled with HIM and only HIM. The main Dharma of anyone is to live in HIM so that He can live in you.You can fulfill this Dharma either by work or through or surrenderring yourself to the ALMIGHTY till HE comes to you and you become a part of HIM.
