  1. Because everyone is not the same. Language alone dictates that belief systems will be different. A Hopi or Navajo's conception of Time alone is so vastly different from say, Indo-European perceptions that one-size-fits-all will never work. Back in Satya Yuga such differences were tiny, but after Kurukshetra and the vast upheavels that followed the human race fragmented more and more. Anyway, what is Hinduism? Is it Vedanta of Ramanuja? Synthesism of Ramakrishna? Karma-yoga of Aurobindo? So in a way I would agree with previous poster--Sanatan Dharm involves the search for the Absolute Truth, in a way then, it IS the world religion. Hope I made some kind of sense, pretty ill today.
  2. Christ is not in the Vedas. If you are so attracted to Christ, follow Christianity. Read "Search for Sri Krishna: Reality the Beautiful" by Srila B.R. Sridhar Maharaja for a philosophical discussion of Christianity from the Vedic viewpoint. Or just read the First Sentence of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja's first book, Srimad Bhagavatam. Plenty to chew on right there. I myself get a warm, tingly feeling walking into a Church during Christmas Season. But not enough to reject Krishna conciousness.
  3. Sri Vishnu's abode is mentioned in Rg Veda as "paramam padam"----As the blazing sun pervades the entire sky like an eye fixed in the heavens, so the divine seers eternally perceive that supreme abode of Visnu." Much of the ritualistic portion of Vedas would not concern worship of Sri Vishnu. That is my ( admittedly meagre ) understanding. Also, Purush Sukta is addressed to Sri Vishnu. And I do not believe historians and most Hindus to be synonymous. Most Hindus, Vaishnavas or not, believe the Gita was spoken by Sri Krishna.
  4. Very nice! Also----"Sarva Dharma parityajya......" Hari Bol!
  5. I can tell you it is quite beautiful there! There are ashrams all over Mexico, many in Vera Cruz state which has a lot of New Age types around Jalapa. Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math has a few ashrams in Vera Cruz and Yucatan.
  6. Not very important to me. The teachings of the three desert religions are not comparable to Sanatan Dharma, which is NOT a religion. Also, all three of these sects believe you are damned if not one of them. If someone wants to be a Muslim or Jew or Christian, fine. But there is little in common with Vedas there, and the conception of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, as demonstrated by Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur and others, is unique.
  7. It has become the habit of a few people in this forum to abuse Adi Shankara. Sri Shankara's philosophy drove Buddhism out of India. Although I cannot agree with his philosophy, I can only respect his knowlege and renunciation. Lines from his works are quoted by everyone, even Vaishnava Archaryas ( Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, for one ). Plus he is avatar of Lord Shiva, be careful!!
  8. Yes, There is Sadashiva, Sankarshan etc. I think the Gita verse commentary concerning Shiva being born from Brahma does not refer to these expansions. Even among Vaishvavas is not Mahesh-Dham above Brahmloka? Correct if I am wrong. Thanks. Always an iteresting topic to me. Srila Sridhar Maharaj discussed this from time to time, must find the recordings.
  9. please do not be offended by my remarks. i am trying to answer according to the teachings of Srila BR Shridhar Maharaja and Srila AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj Prabhupad. hmm, i see this interesting thread is still going on. Yes, no revolutionary sets out to be a muderous swine, yet it happens every time. "Our hearts were so pure, we really wanted to do good for the people. If anyone had told us, on that first day of power that in 12 years we should come to this we would have considered them insane"-Dr. Frick, NSDAP Minister of Justice, Nuremberg trials, 1946. I have no problem with socialism lite--say as practiced in Scandinavia. but when you start talking about Marx, Engels etc you are advocating the VIOLENT overthrow of society. Mao says there cannot even BE the potential for communism without violence. Are you so POSITIVE your way is the right way and don't mind people getting hurt/killed to prove that you can turn this world into a paradise. Don't be like those Che Guevara tools who say they are against capital punishment or censorship and fail to admit that their hero #1 executed thousands, made homosexuality illegal, banned a free press etc etc. Birth. old age, disease and death are the truths of the material world, and this applies to planets as well as individuals. Srila Bhaktsiddhanta Saraswati said overcoming THAT is so important that everything else can wait-"let the world burn". The world is full of people screaming "I. Me, Mine!!!!" that's how we got here in the first place. Do you really think it is possible to get them all to work towards some idealistic, communal society without force? Srila Prabhupad said that this world is basically a lunatic asylum run by Srimati Durgadevi. As far as a fit planet to offer, unless we live like folks did 5,000 years ago, or all take up the search for the Absolue Truth ( whose attraction is by "love and beauty, not coercion and force"-B.R. Shridar ) I can't see it hapenning. Have you seen the pollution problems in socialist countries-it is horrendous.. The forestry programs in capitalist countries are better. The best conservation, safe, clean work environment laws, anti-animal vivisection laws were actually passed by the friggin NAZIS!! Anyway, I am sorry to go on and on. but the arguments of the communists are so annoying, they go like this: 1. USSR, China, Cambodia and Cuba are( were) horrible, coercive dictatorships. Argument: they are not really communist. 2. What about all the executions? They deserved it. ( who decides that?)And the capitalists are just as bad nyaah nyahh!!!! 3. people in this world are inherently selfish and clannish. Argument--no they are not!!!!!! Once their brilliant intellects ( the same folks who can't wait to vote for American Idol or buy a Hummer ) grasp the truth of Marxism they will WORK FOR FREE!!!! And love it! Just ask the Cubans who can't wait for Fidel to die how they like working for free on their vacations. But their literacy rate is almost as high as costa ( capitalist ) rica's. Lenin predicted the end of nationalism in the USSR within 10 years. Now look at all the breakaway republics. It's human nature. As Eric Burden and the Animals said "We gotta get out of this place!" or Tim Leary "when will we quit getting bogged down in mammalian politics?" I am sorry about being such a windbag-but no philosophy has brought as much grief to mankind as Marxism. Anyway, I respect your desire to make this world a better place, and the planet is certainly being run by a##holes now, but Marx isn't going to save it, Marxism is a proven 19th century failure that belongs in the trash heap of history. Please read "Against All Hope", "Gulag Archipelago 1-3" or "Black Book of Communism" if you do not want to accept the word of our archaryas.
  10. That Thorncrown chapel is amazing. Simple and natural. My better half, who is an architect loves it. I am not a fan of gratuitous gigantism ( eg..Srila Prabhupada's Pushpa Samadhi ). I think "small is beautifulsimple living, high thinking" etc...suits Vaishnavas better.
  11. there are Vaishnava Maths with Shiva-linga in Vrindavan and Navadwip at least. Sri Shiva is the protector of the Holy Dham. Please correct me if i am mistaken. also as mentioned here Shiva has His eternal abode and form, but also other forms who work in the material world, for that reason He is compared to yogurt in the Brahma-Samhita.
  12. i never could understand why some folks get so fried if one does not accept this Jesus stuff. what it has to do with the philosophy of Mahaprabhu is beyond me. but that is typical of his followers, they are now in Bharata preaching against Sanatan Dharm i think.
  13. OMG!!! ROTFL!!!! wow, is this still an issue despite what the great, stalwart archaryas of our line have to say about it? seems to me another example of trying to make gaudiya vaishnavism conform to judeo-christian belief systems.
  14. Sriman Puru das was a friend. We used to have some great debates about the situation in the early 80s, w/ Sriman Tarun Krishna das. I remember when he had his heart-bypass surgery we visited. He was so weak, yet made sure we had some prasadam, water etc. I also remember his "Taxi Tattva" article in BTG. He is on his way to Sri Nityananda's kirtan party! KB das
  15. thank you! wondeful-need more posts like this, less about the bible, israelis and palis. kbd
