The raas and garba are often confused as one because of the circular pattern of the dancing perimeter as also the period when the event is organised.

krishna was the master of raas leela generally done with dandias.

garba is a form of dance done by female members of the gujarati community with the clapping of hands alone wherein the mother goddess AMBA is invoked for happiness and progeny. garbo as it is colloquially called is a by product of the sanskrit word garbha or womb. there is a ghatastapana where the mother goddess is invoked and every night a different aspect of the goddess is invoked. the moment devi is invoked shiva isnt far away :)

the period of the garbo is the navratri the nine nights for worshipping the mother goddess.

nowadays generally the two dances are mixed as "raas garba" or even "disco raas garba"

In that case it wasn't dandia because I didn’t see any men. All I saw were females in their dresses twirling and whirling in a circular formation. I thought for a long time that maybe it was shadows of the leaves outside. But at the time I was convinced it was what it was. I saw it for two days straight and then the next night when I looked it wasn't there.

Hi Milly, here is another "strange encounter of the pure kind":

I was living in Guatemala up in the mountains back in 1994. Beautiful mountain range just south of Mexico. I was living it on the rough and spending alot of time in solitude and thought (and youthful folly).

This day I climbed up on a mountain ridge over-looking a picturesque valley. Blue skies with some cloud banks.

I took a seat on the soft grass and entered prayer. My faith was very small back then. With all honesty and petition I cried out to God, 'Lord I do not know whether you (Lord Jesus) are real or not...did you walk this earth?'

Straight away a cloud formation began to manifest in the sky, and within ten seconds it transformed into the face of Christ. Not a charming face, of no particular beauty...except for the eyes. His eyes were full of tears and weeping for the lost souls. Eyes of compassion.

Then the cloud began to dissipate. That was a close encounter of the pure kind:pray::).

Awww, you made my day with this story :). Thanks for sharing!!!

Maybe Amma is calling you Milly;). I could feel her calling the week before.

    (Lord Harihara)

Amma experiences Devi bhava...and occasionaly has manifested Durga. In the biography I recommended you there is one story when Durga took charge of Amma...frightening for some. Fortunately for me she just manifested a big hug :)!

Lol, maybe :D. I saw a lady get possessed by mataji when I was at a goini (you know the thing where 9 young girls are called for puja) and yes it was frightening. I thought something else awful was happening to her.

    Dear Milly,

Garba dance has notking to go with Siva. It is the dance related to Shakti Gurga who is of course the wife of Siva The experiences you narated points out that you have deep spiritual connection with godess Durga.

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

Shiva and Parvati are one so the dance is still connecting to him in someway. This is what I meant. I didn't realise there was even the slightest connection.:)

i was reading an artical on a woman who is in a coma and she woke up for a few minute to get married. i was thinking what is it like to be in a coma, would u be in a dream state just like sleeping, or is there just nothin

My nani was in a coma for two years because of a fire accident. She said she was unconscious the whole time. She didn't even know she was operated on until she woke up.

  6.

it has always been said that the first man and woman on earth was ADAM AND EVE! is it true ? lol . but what about the theory of science that we are descendent of monkeys ?

    foolish question ya

The theory doesn't say we are descendants of monkeys. It says we are descendants of ape like creatures :smash: . The Adam and Eve story is not to be taken literally.

    Dear Milly,

It simply means that your mind is in siva and are cut out for Siva bakti. You must do sadana on which your mind naturally gets absorbed for complete benifit. No harm in experimenting and trying different things , but in duecourse settle on one mantra and stabilise in it. There is a reason for it. Every time you change your mantra you are changing the subtle formation that the mantra forms at a spiritual level. Every mantra has a consciousness associated with it. It is called its devada. The devada does not get formed if you keep changing the mantra. Mantra sastra prescribes chanting one mantra for millions of time for it's siddhi. Some mantras are prescribed for a life time even with out change.

Do experiment initially, to discover what suits you the most. But then do settle down with one.

Your other post on your strange experience with the garba dance on the wall as well as your dream of your mother as goddess confirmes that you are deeply attracted siva and Parvati from the depth of your mind. (Garba dance is gurga's dance) There is no point in fighting with your mind. Follow its intution and inclination in the mater of spiritual sadana. You will be richly rewarded. Everey one is uniquely cut out for a unique davada and mantra, according to mantra sastra and that devada and mantra will manifest in dreem, in visions and in reality as omens.

I think Siva is calling you. His mantra camme to you isint it? And he is not leaving you. Listern to him. He is a very great god. He is a grand teacher. In case you need some other mantra he himself will instruct you that. For the time being Just surrender to him and follow him. He is truely truely wonderful teacher. You are very lucky and in safe hands, spiritually.

I am talking from my direct experience.

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

    Thank you Ravindran.

I didn't know garba dance had anything to do with Siva. I know about Siva and Krishna but I know very little. I have only recently started chanting mantras. Its the only thing I know how to do because I'm not familiar with all the traditions of Hinduism. I come from a Oshwal Jain family who worship Hindu gods but they are also unfamiliar with all Hindu traditions. So I hope that only chanting is accepted by Siva/Krishna.

Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful experiences Milly.

I have had numerous encounters both as a child, young man, and mature adult. I had my first vision of the future around five years old.

I live with 'synesthesia' now. Babies that are new born can have synesthete qualities, but for some reason as the baby develops synesthesia diminishes. Adult synesthesia is much different.

I became aware of the full potentiality of my synesthesia during my thirties.

Synesthetes hear colors, feel sounds and taste shapes. Wow! :) I don’t have the ability to see the future but once I asked my gran to phone her best friend because she didn’t meet her for so many years. She called and then we found she died about a week ago. That was so strange:eek:.

I also had a few strange experiences in my childhood, though not as colorful as yours. In one occasion I was 10 years old and it was during daytime when I was wide awake. I was staring at the interwoven structure of a metal bed spring from a distance of about half a meter. At one point my vision enlarged the spring. I could see impossible details almost as if I watched the spring through a microscope, while still being able to see the whole spring. I even could switch my vision back and forth between normal and enlarged. I still have no explanation for it.

    That's very strange but cool!:)

  9. I have had about three which all occurred long before I was even 10. After years, I thought maybe it was just my imagination going wild like with most kids. But I can't seem to forget these things. So I am posting this here just to be sure if it was real or just my imagination lol.

The first one is weird and it happened twice in one week. At night while I was in my bed I saw a shadow on the wall with ladies doing garba or dandia. Do you think there might be something to it?

Also another time I had a dream. My mum was opening the door of my house. While she was doing this, she turned to look at me and she turned into a Goddess (don’t know which) and the whole of our drive way became filled with flowers. Then when she turned around to face the door, everything became normal again.

and some fool here equating a fanatic christian declaration "christ is the only way" to the vedic truth,"the mind cannot be purified without doing krsna bhakti."

There have been 5 jagadgurus till. All have accepted this fact and provided pramanas frm vedas. So dont speculate and babble anything.

Most religions claim that theirs is the only way. I find this very hard to accept. I have come to the conclusion that truth is multi-faceted so it will sometimes look different depending on which angle it is viewed from.

For example, a Christian may believe that theirs is the only way, while a Muslim may believe that theirs is the only way. Since both religions disagree, both cannot be absolute truths. While both groups may believe their view is absolute, at least one of them is wrong. But we can say that both statements are true in relation to each group's core beliefs.

    Have a lovely time Milly.

Now! Go get that hug! Good hugs (I recommend)...Amma has plenty of practice:) .

I'll be brave this time, lol :)

    Dear Milly,

She is a realised person and She can answer any spirritual question and guide you properly. Though she is illetrate you will be stunned at her ability to clarify on spiritual matters . Dont miss that opportunity. Ask her your spiritual questions and concernes.

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

Yes!! I think I might have a few questions. I'm just wondering if she speaks English or Gujarati, or does she have a translator?

  12. It’s easy to criticize what you don’t know. Loving her doesn’t make your devotion to Krishna any less pure so don't let anyone be the judge of your devotion.

That was a very emotional video and I already feel that I like her. I am just a bit afraid as to what I would say. And I’m also a bit afraid because she hugs people, and I never do hugs. I know this will make me sound sad, but even when people have tried to hug me, I have resisted. I don’t know why. I don’t want her to think that I think badly of her. I love people but find it hard to express my emotions. But she sounds so lovely, I want to meet her.

I’ll see if I can pick up the book from the library so thanks for the suggested reading. And now that you have reminded me, I already had made plans to go to the Iskcon temple tomorrow. I have been there many times and whenever I go there I come out with a completely refreshed mind. Its my favorite place :D
