1. Dear Learned Friends (especially those excellent astrologers out there),

It is said that at first sight yogas for elightenment seem to indicate adversity. In the charts of spiritually orientated persons we often find indications of problems in mundane life. However, more often than not these problems have been the main source of spiritual wisdom.

I invite you to share your knowledge on yogas that signify elightenment in the the astrological chart. I am sure there are hundreds of such yogas. If you can discuss ones that are not well understood I am sure this will benefit many astrology beginners like myself.

    Many thanks.

    Dear HST108,

Ishta Devta...as per your personal, specific chart...is Lord Rama. The AK being in strong position in Navamsa, the mentioned mantra for Mercury (gurukaraka) is the best way for you to pursue your spirituality and goaks,

Luckily, this adeqautely covers what my hon'ble senior member Shri USR ji points out - Mercury is also your lagna lord and therefore, the same mantra applies.

All discussions regarding Atmagati may be initiated in the Spiritual Discussions forum on this site itself. I am sure many learned members will be able to provide insight on the matter.

I focus myself only towards Jyotish Vidya and therefore desisted from replying your question earlier.

    Many Regards,

    Deepa Bhandari

    Dear Deepa ji,

I have learnt much from you. Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to provide a detailed analysis of the Ishata Devta. I am very grateful for your generosity and patience.:)

    HST108(Your sweet name?)

Sri Vishnu has taken 9/10 avtars for destroying evil.Sri Ram is one.Your Lagna is Mithun.Lagna lord is Budha. He is also lord of 4th Kanya in 8th house. So, pray Sri Vishnu which covers all dieties including Ravi and wear Emerald on your right little finger.

    Dear USR ji,

Thank you for clarifying which Ishta Devata I should pray to.

I was also reading the interesting dialogue you have been having with Deep ji regarding standing and sitting Lakshmi. I didn't know there was difference (I guess I still have a lot to learn about the amazing pantheon of Hindu deities :ponder:. Fascinating, indeed.). Thanks for sharing that.

    Deepa Ji,

Suggest Ishta Devata as per her birth star. Each birth star is ruled by a planet and a Diety. That will be better choice for getting good results.

    USR

    Dear USR ji,

As the diety presiding over my birth star is Aditi, do you mean, I will get better results if I choose an aspect of the Divine Mother as my Ishta Devta? I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Many thanks.

  6. Deepa ji, Thank you so much for that detailed analysis and for generously sharing your knowledge. You are a lengend! :)

You have cleared up a lot of questions. I have also taken note of the mantra to Lord Vishnu and do intend to use it.

Could you also please elaborate in few words the concept of 'atmagati'?

    Many thanks.

  7.

There are some who say that the Ishta and the AK cannot be the same planet (though this combination often makes a person very spiritual- as long as Sun and AK have good relationship in Rashi Chart). So in this case you take the strongest planet aspecting the jivamuktamsha (12th house from Karakamsa). In general the planets aspecting the jivamuktamsa will represent deities that will lead one to their Ishta.

Deepa ji, thanks for clarifying this. In my chart the Ishta Devta and the AK appear to be the same which is Saturn. However you have said it is not possibble to take the same planet as Ishta and AK. So in my chart it is not very straight forward. I have read somewhere that you have to take the planet that is positioned in the house immediately before the house where the AK is in the Navamsha chart (not sure if you agree with this) In my case I have the Sun positioned there. So I am a bit confused as to which planet I need to take as my Ishat Devta. I would very much appreciate your further analysis on this.

My birth details are: Feb 28, 1969; 2.42pm; Colombo Sri Lanka.

Planetary positions in the Rashi and Navamsha are as follows:

Planet / Asc Rashi Chart Navamsha Chart

    Ascendant à Gemini Taurus

    Sun à Aquarius Aquarius

    Moon à Cancer Cancer

    Mercury à Capricorn Gemini

    Venus à Pisces Pisces

    Mars à Scorpion Virgo

    Jupiter à Virgo Aries

    Saturn à Pisces Pisces

    Rahu à Pisces Virgo

    Ketu à Virgo Pisces

    <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Neptune à Scorpion Leo

    Uranus à Virgo Pisces

    Pluto à Virgo Capricorn

    Many thanks!:)

I'm sorry for having offended either you or Dhumavati Mahavidya. I offer all apologies to your feet and the lotus feet of the Divine Mahavidya Dhumavati.

Dear RadheyRadhey, I am not at all offended. And there is no need for any apologies.... It is just that I find it truly liberating to see Devinity in All of Creation.:)

  9.

Yes, indeed. But she claims to be the incarnation of the Mother as Radharani (who has a specific set of characteristics by which we can recognize Her incarnations (e.g.- Sita, Padma, Bhumi Devi, etc...) in the world), when she should be claiming to be the incarnation of a goddess like Dhumavati (who has characteristics by which we can recognize her incarnations that are similar those that Vasantha Sai has).

Dear RadheyRadhey your devotion to Radharani is amirable:) ....... But when Divinity takes incarnation Divinity may not do so to a set of prescriptions /characteristics that we prescribe or feel that It must take. Dvinity will take incarnation as Divinity pleases. (I think it is somewhat arrogant to assume that we know exactly how Shakti will take form in each incarnation. That is beyond the comprehension of mere mortals. Shakti will play as She pleases!)

Let me ask you....If Krishna's Radharani was any less beuatiful (physically)than you think she was, would you have loved her less? (I bet Krishna would not have had a problem loving her even if she was not beautiful physically.) Divinity is just IS. It is our limited minds that tend to categorise things as being beautiful or ugly etc, etc..... They are just labels. ;)

  10. I agree with everyone here who said that having to pay $$$ for elightment is somehow doesn't sound right.

Seriously HST108, please be careful with your spiritual life. God does not charge you money for authentic rebirth or diksa. The price is much higher than money. When seeking to be twice born it is best to approach the Lord penniless and in the mood of a beggar seeking grace.

    Hare Krishna

Theist, thanks for you concern :) .....but I was never sold on the idea of getting diksha's for $10,000. I was only inquiring if anyone else here had firsthand experience of the Oneness University Dikshas. :ponder:

As for Ahimsa I doubt if Buddha practised Ahimsa or his followers do. Although eastern martial arts originated in India (probably out of Hatha yoga) but it didn't get popular because there wasn't any need for martial arts for Ahimsak Hindus, but lethal forms of martial arts were endorsed & perfected in all the Buddhist nations like China, Korea, Japan etc. As a matter of fact the Samurai people from Japan who were also Buddhists were ardent martial art practitioners & believed in bloodshed as not only a means of achieving their aims but as something that was good in itself, well so much so for Ahimsa.

This is the very reason why buddhism didn't gain in popularity in India as it offered nothing new to the masses.

I was brought up as a buddhist (although I have no particular attachment to the religion) -- So I can tell you for sure that the cornerstone of buddhisum is Ahimsa. The original teachings of Buddha had nothing to do with martial arts. Martial arts came into existance in various parts of the world due to political and cultural influences. Buddhism may have complimented these martial arts as they require a level of mental discipline and Buddhism is able to offer that.

However, I tend to agree with you that Buddhism didn't gain popularity in India as it did not have anything new to offer. Buddhism isn't all that different from the Jnana yogi path in Hinduism although there are subtle differences between the two.

  12. Suchandra Ji,

Thanks for that very insightful explanation of the eighth house. I can certainly relate to some of the points that you hilighted such as going through a process of re-orientation and shedding away what is un-necessary. I have certainly been doing quite a bit of that during the last few years. You also pointed out the healing and regenerative powers associated with the house -- well, at the moment I am in the process of getting into a career related to healing (complimentary therapies). So your interpretation makes quite a lot of sense. Thanks.

  13.

Also your Gita may say to see the Divine everywhere but mine has Krishna saying, "see me everywhere and in everyone."

Saying Krishna is Divine is all right as He is divine. But saying Divine equals Krishna is a mistake. Divinity is just one of His perfect qualities and does not capture the whole Person.

It is a subtle but important distinction.

When I mean to see divinity in "all".....it includes 'everyone', 'everywhere', and 'everything' in other words All of Creation. Let's not get caught up in semantics........Ultimately, Divinity goes beyond all names, forms, distinctions and concepts. ;)

  14. I am not arguing for or against this ongoing discussion ....... but I think, to judge the presence or absence of divinity based on the outer form is somewhat contrary to teachings of Krishna. When we become seduced by form we are only getting lost in the play of Maya all the more.....was it not in the Bagavad Gita that it is stated "when you see divinity in all then only you see trully?"

Sorry, I don't mean to preach. I just love the wisdom and beauty of Krishna's teachings.

  16. :)

    Hello,

I am a new member. Could anyone out there provide me some information about Khodiyar Maa. Since of late I feel drawn to Khodiyar Maa but has not been able to find much information on her. Does anyone know any mantras for Khodiyar Maa? If anyone can share any information / experiences regrading the worship of Khodiyar Maa I will be very very grateful.

    Thank you!
