  2.

    Deare Just Rish,

Hope you dont mind my advise on the medical examination. You know when you do japa r some sort of meditation your breathing pattern changes automatically It slows down. When thios happens the supply of oxygen to the blood is reduced. this can affect the heart when there is any problem with the heart . It is better to rule out that possibility.

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

No I do not mind at all. As I said, I don't think there is a problem. But I guess its best to be on the safe side and have it checked out.

  3.

Then it is no longer Chanting...

Chanting in silence is contradiction in itself.

anyways; shivering might occur out of intense Love for the Deity; but I don't what's your frame of mind and what's your conception of spirituality.

I did not realise that chanting has to be done in a certain way. Doing the Mantra silently in my mind works for me.

    Dear Justrish,

Do analise that the heaviness is due to the emotion that arise in your heart for the god. If no such direct correlation exists then it could be understood in termes of the pranic energy dynamics introduced by meditation.

It is also a good idea too have a medical check up of the heart. just to rule out any cardiac symptoms.

If there is no emotional explanation as well as medical cause then There is a third way to understand these phenominon. There are three bodies. The physical cellular body, (Stula sarira in sanskrit. Stula = gross) the Energy meridian body ( Prana sarira . Prana = vital energy Chi or qi energy in chinese) and mantra body (pranava sarira . Pranava = Sound in Sanskrit)

Pranava body is the causal boidy. When we alter this layer of our being it results in the changes in prana energy nmmeridian and that results in physical phenominon. Hence when you act on your mantra body it shows up in the physical phinominon.

Little more of these three bodies I am discussing in the forum "Does free will exist" You can read it in my today's and yester day's posts in that forum. (They are little longish posts and I am not repreting them here. )

    Regards,

    K.Ravindran

Okay thank you, I will definately read the topic :).. I don't think its a medical condition as it only happens when I do the chanting. The heavy feeling doesn't feel bad. I feel there is some sort of energy (good) there.

  4.

I guess that you mean that your chanting is silent in the mind not the shivering, right? Shoivering is verymuch physical right?

In fact Silent chanting is supposed to be more potent in mantra science . It acts on kundalini that way.

(However Bhakti yoga has a different perscription . Mantra is chanted loud as in singing the lord's song. No neecd to get confused over it. They atre different paths leading to different results. In bhakti yoga usually there is no kundalini raising, though it can happen in intense bhakti.)

    Regartds,

    K.Ravindran

Yes the chanting is very much silent. When I say shivering, I mean I get chills. And sometimes I also feel something heavy in my heart.

No problem and I can understand your situation.

Your uncle's friend is right in giving you this advise.

Well this mantra is for Shiva whom we also know as Mahadev(god of Gods),this mantra also known as panchakshara mantra and the most powerful among all mantra even though it is short and easy to recite.

I wish very best to you.

Thanks!! Yes its short and very easy to pronounce so I enjoy doing it but I just wasn't sure of its benefits.

hello justRish if you are looking for confidence mantra you should recite hanuman mantra which is OM HUM OM HUM OM HANUMATE PHAT.is the most effective to get self confidence.the mantra om namah shivaya is famous because of protection from evil influence ,is allso very auspicious to get money and is a strong chakra purificator each sillabe work of the mantra work in the different chakras.namaste

Thanks for the mantra.... :) I think my dad would be interested in this one as well....

  7. I recently met my uncle’s friend who happens to be a "psychic" and he doesn't charge people for doing readings. To be honest, I've always been skeptical of psychics and I don't know much about Hinduism, but he told me to do something and I want to give it a chance. He told me to chant "Om Namah Shivaya" before I go to bed. I don't know why he chose this particular mantra for me. He may have chosen it because, according to his psychic reading, I grew up with a lot of fear in me which has resulted in low confidence and self-esteem issues.

As I said, I'm not very familiar with Hinduism because I grew up in a Jain family so I want to know the benefits of this mantra.

    Please help. Thank you :).

  8.

Some time ago, i was reading an article that said the percentage of Christians in India was actually 6 percent with many dalits witholding their faith to get quota. Add together with other hostile elements like the Muslims and the Sikhs and Indian religion is doomed:crying2:

Our gurus are more busy fighting amongst themselves unfortunately...Dear Shri JN Das, I know you are doing a commendable job in Orissa, would you please enlighten us on the situation there.

Well people better do something about the caste system otherwise it really is doomed. I know the caste system is outlawed but people hold on to their views like crazy. It makes those who follow the caste system look like the real enemy of Hinduism.

    Dear Friends,

    [url="http://koottala.multiply.com/photos/album/2/Egg_Vegitarian_or_Non_vegitarian"]

Check these photos and understand Egg is vegetarian or non vegetarian?

I just want to say, thank you. Time and time again, when I see products in the shops with the label "vegetarian", it contains eggs. Goes to show I must be more careful of what I eat. These pictures puts things into perspective and I will never eat anything with egg in it. EVER.

  10.

I mean you can always adopt one and let it go into its natural surroundings.

    Jai Shri Krishna

I could adopt one and let it go but it would probably not survive out there on its own, because it doesn't know how. It was domesticated, remember? I'd rather take care of the animal than let it go because its chances of survival would be very low.

The only thing I would suggest is that you get your pet from a shelter instead of a pet store, where the animals are bred for the purpose of becoming pets. That way you can avoid supporting "the industry" and you'll be saving a life in the process.

Yes, exactly what I was trying to say :). The difficulty is that I know of no animal shelter near by, but I will be on the look out. May be one might come up.

  11.

If you read my post again, I said we should try to do gentle methods first. Counseling, etc. Eventually it may end up in divorce anyway, but think how much nicer it would be put an effort to enhance the relationship first. How can you prefer divorce to a happy marriage? I would only go for divorce as a last option.

Okay, as a last option, which is also true. Why did I not think of counseling because that is a good idea. Absolutely!!

Sorry to the lady if I sounded harsh. (I am not married so I don't know much about these things.)

  12.

JustRish, it is appropriate to try gentle methods before doing something so drastric. Imagine how the little daughter will feel when the parents get divorced. My parents have gone through some violent periods but I was always against them getting divorced. It is very hard for kids to go with divided love.

Manaswini- have you tried to do things together, chanting, walking, sharing some laughter etc.?

I know I must have sounded really harsh. But is it wise to stay in a marriage for the sake of kids? My uncle and aunty do not get on and are in constant arguments with each other. They are married but separated. This is what the kid has grown up watching. It does affect the child psychologically. Kids are very clever and they pick these things up. And as they grow up they see these kinds of relationships as the norm. So when they get into a relationship, they think it is alright to be beaten and that it is alright to beat. You can still get the love of your parents while they are separated. It’s completely possible and personally feel it is better. But when parents who hate each other are together, I think it is impossible to get full attention from the parent, especially when they are both so unhappy. Children can sense this unhappiness. Wouldn't the kids want their parents to be happy too? Everyone deserves happiness. I feel that having a kid is not going to solve this ladies problems. This man will continue to treat her in a bad way if she lets him. Sorry if I offended anyone.

  13.

Atheists are waiting for more evidence. They've pulled off the road and parked until they get it. Agnostics keep their engine running. x

But it is actually possible to be both. I am both. It would be a little silly to deny the existence out and out. But I still find it hard to understand, and in the process I can be a pain in the back side for people when they explain it to me and I still don't understand . There may well be something out there who created us, but does this existence interfere with matters on earth? I am not so sure. If I did believe then perhaps I would be a Deist. I am still pondering on these things. I am quite confused.

  14.

    My husband threatens divorce.

Wake up. You're husband is beating you and you want to stay in this marriage just because you don't want to go through another divorse? Violence is not okay. If you're husband is threatening you with a divorce then give him the divorse he wants. I think he is making empty threats. If I were you I'd leave him. You don't seem happy and I don't see the point to this relationship. I am sorry if this is something you don't want to hear. Be strong and LEAVE!! My advice is don't have a kid with this man because then it will be too late, you'll be stuck with him forever. What kind of person will dump someone just because they can't have a kid. Doesn't sound like love to me.

  15.

who is this sai baba guy really is.....my aunt and her family are just crazy about him, they say that he is an incarnation of lord krishna.....i just think hes a fake

I have great respect for Shirdi Sai Baba, but he no incarnation of Krishna.

  16.

    Hare Krishna,

I personally don't like the idea of keeping animals in cages. I think they should be able to roam around naturally. Especially birds, yes, it may be more work for them (look for food, danger of predators), but that is their nature. In some situations animals are being kept captive to save the species, maybe in a zoo or a sactuary. This is a whole different situation, anyway this is just my personal opinion...

I appreciate your opinion. If I adopt one, I'd be supporting this industry. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes in this market but I'm told they're treated in a cruel way. The more the birds get purchased by people like me, shops will continue with this trade. So perhaps the best thing to do is not purchase animals. Perhaps I should adopt one that needs a home from a rescue center rather than actually buy one. Thank you for your opinion.

  17.

It sounds to me like you are making it a bit too complicated. As long as you take good care of your pets it will be good for you and them both. Freedom is more than just the ability to walk away; it is having options. Being supplied with food, water, love, and protection is better than having to be out in the wild where so much time and energy must be spent on getting the basic needs met. Being around people can help animals develop higher emotions like love, gratitude, and appreciation. Being able to hear a "Hare Krishna" or two is even better.

Thank you Inedible. I was actually feeling really guilty of adopting one. But this made me wonder. Thanks. :(
