Swamiji has said that the Yoni in a Shiva Lingam should point to the

thanks for this Nanda. i have a couple of questions why north? and

which direction are we supposed to sit, east? what is the

significance, if any, to sitting(or not) directly in front? i looked

around for the answers but couldn't find them. thanks in advance.

Namaste Eric,

Generally when we sit at the altar we face North or East, therefore

the murtis are on the South or West wall respectively. In the case of

the Shiva Lingam then, the yoni faces in the same direction as us - ie

North., so the yoni is really away from us.

Regarding the significance of the direction, I will forward to Swamiji

and inform as soon as I hear back from him.

i was always under the impression you would face the altar. if we

sit facing east or north and the murtis are on the west or south

wall aren't you then sitting with your back to them? i'm confused.

Namaste Eric,

The murtis face South or West, we face North or East.

So if your altar is set up so that the murtis face south, you would

face north.

And if your altar is set up so that the murtis face west, you would

face east.

In all cases, you would face the altar.

Hope this helps.

Just to be sure, does this mean that the area of the yoni, where the

liquid is most likely to flow into the container is nearer to the

worshipper?

Thanks for your help.

I see people gave partial information above, and never clarified the direction of the divya-yoni.

From my understand and as my teacher has thought me,

1.) The alter can be facing west, in which case the disciple faces east. In this setup, the yoni opens in the north where amrutha can flow. this is very auspicious.

that is one auspicious setup.

2.) The other auspicious setup if for the seekers of moksa as there primal goal, The linga faces south, devouring all the veils of Maya. in this case the disciple faced north to see the master lord. and in this setup the auspicious yoni opens towards the east.

the setup is chosen based on bhogabhara and yogabhara. and especially in yogabhara is high and if one wishes to practice the parakshara and do the paraprasada mantra , one surely shoudl use the second setup and connect to the fourth face which is bestower of grace.

i hope this information clears the confusion regarding the direction where amrutaprasada shoudl flow.

Just to be sure, does this mean that the area of the yoni, where the

liquid is most likely to flow into the container is nearer to the

worshipper?

Thanks for your help.
