Guest guest Report post Posted October 11, 2003 Namaste, Everyone I have been trying to catch up with messages from the past two weeks. Several thoughts: First, The Divine Mother is ONE! She manifests in many ways for many purposes, for all aspects of our lives, but she is one, there is only one God. In Chapter 10 of Chandi Pathah, Divine Mother is doing final battle with Shumbha (Self-Conceit), having just destroyed Nishumbha (Self-Deprecation, his brother). In shlokas (verses) 5 & 6 , she responds to Shumbha's insult (that she fights by means of the strength of others): "Ekaivaaham jagatyatra dvitiyaa kaa mamaaparaa pashyaitaa dushta mayyeva vishantyo madvibhutyah" "Tatah samastaastaa devyo brahmaanipramukha layam tasyaa devyaas tanau jagmur ekaivaasit tadaambikaa" (I am the only One here in the perceivable world. No other exists beyond me. Oh wicked one, see as these manifestations of my energy enter into myself. Then all the Goddesses, led by the Creative Energy, dissolved into the Being of the Goddess, and there was only ONE EXISTENCE in the perceivable world--THE MOTHER OF THE UNIVERSE!) Lakshmi is Our Mother giving us opportunity to create ourselves anew through focus of desire; what a gift of love! We have the capacity to recreate ourselves in every moment, but we forget that! When we clarify our desires (even if our desire is to become desireless) then the beauty of Mother's mind (our mind surrendered to Her) moves us to our goal. We become what we focus upon--it is an ancient and beautiful Truth. When we finally realize that--harness that, use that knowledge in our devotion to our Mother--she brings us the fruit. That is Her, that is our Lakshmi Devi. When I consider selfless love, so many lessons come to mind, including very recent lessons from Durga Ma brought to me through her Nine Days of worship (Navaratri). I was talking today with a guru bhaiya (guru brother) about loving those who abuse or malign us. For me here is a clear place where knowledge and devotion, or faith, come together--knowledge that all are expressing their own "truths" from their own place, whatever that may be I cannot judge. I love that person in their own truth, it doesn't matter that it doesn't agree with my "truth." His is one reflection of an infinite number of possibilities, and so I cannot take it personally. My faith in God brings me the knowledge that sacrificing any ego on my part brings me closer to the Divine, and therefore that person too. It is a very beautiful thing, that unity. I had a Jungian teacher once who liked to say, "It's always wise to take the personal impersonally, and the impersonal personally." I always liked that too. Love to everyone!
