Guest guest Report post Posted October 21, 2005 For a brief background, the Gita is a renowned religious text for many sections of Hindus. It has been around for at least 2000 years and has been a popular text for at least 1500 years. The Gita is one of the old-age texts that does not indulge in gender bias. From a religious perspective, it is the word of God to all mankind written down in the form of a dialogue between Krishna (one of the Hindu Gods) and Arjuna - a confused individual. It is about Krishna removing Arjuna's confusion recorded in 700 verses. A number of translations of this text are widely available. Cheers
Gaea 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2005 when is the Bhagavad-Gita written? more than 5000 years ago by Sage Vyaas. (this was when Krsna & co were actually here, walking and talking) What is it's Historical Context? Read the Mahabharata, which will give you a precise historical context of both the Gita and the Bhagavatham. How are women percieved in the Bhagavad-Gita? You said you read it in one of your previous posts - you must have seen that it is not about gender - it's about YOU (the soul) and your relationship with God. I read it but what's the importance of it? In the Gita, Krsna likens the science that He is describing to a resavoire compared to a well of the Vedas. It is of supreme importance because Krsna is telling us what our relatioship with God is, what devotion is, what service is- the ultimate, final Truth.
