Pankaja_Dasa 1 Report post Posted March 24, 2005 Hare Krishna, Want to ask can the comparison of being on drugs such as Heroin, be compared to living the 4 Regulative Principles Strictly? For me this seems true... When I was smoking cigarettes, I gave up. It was Not easy but I did. When I was drinking Alcohol is was NOT easy but I eventually gave up. I never really ate meat so I cannot say either way if that is difficult. Gambling I never did it, even though at one time I worked in a Casino!. Illicit sex, is thrown at us from all angle in this society so its hard to avoid. All the false propaganda that men think of sex every 6 seconds, seems to be what this world is all about. But now I know there is a higher purpose, I tend not to think about the Opposite sex a lot, expect when I watch Television, which I should avoid. I think personally sex is the root cause of material engagement. I admit I get attracted to females. But I really think that's Maya working for me. I should be attracted to Krishna. So point I am making is, just see how difficult it is to give up these things? But we are not giving up where taking up spiritual activities.? Kinda like the saying, "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." Get rid of the tv. When the Krsna Sun shines there can be no darkness of maya. Afterall, God created you with right hormones and they are doing their job as per his direction. You shouldn't be afraid of this. Fear comes when you have done something counter to your own conscience. THIS DOES NOT ENDORSE WRONG-DOING (before someone accuses me of it). I think you should look at things from a different perspective. WHY ARE YOU ATTRACTED TO WOMEN? This world is a perversion of the spiritual world is it not? Your attraction to things in this world is simply a perversion of the natural innate attraction to Krsna. If you think of it this way, suddenly the maya lifts and you love Krsna even more. Cool, eh?
