Guest guest Report post Posted November 16, 2004 From Shiva There's gonna be a hollywood blockbuster coming out in the next year or two that will be almost entirely set in Bombay. Johnny Depp has bought the film rights to the extremely popular australian novel "Shantaram". It's an autobiographical 1000 page novel, about an australian writer who ends up in an australian prison and then escapes, and flees to Bombay. It takes places over a number of years during the 80's, almost exclusively in Bombay, with a bit in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I've read it, and like many others I was fascinated by this real life tale of Bombay, told through the eyes of a westerner who ended up a hero to the cities poorest people, and a close brother to the cities crime lords and assorted Bollywood types and media figures.
