According to BAluki

Inside umbilicus there is soma/moon circle. Inside soma circle there is sUrya/sun circle. In human beings, within sUrya circle lamp-shape agni is present. It/he helps in food digestion taken along with various vegetable preparations. Agni in lamp-form is covered with glass shell as embryo with amniotic membrane. As sun, located in sky, absorbs water from all wells & ponds with help of its hot rays, similarly agni, located in umbilical region helps in food’s immediate digestion taken along with various vegetable dishes by its/his rays’ help.

[suzruta : sUtra 21:9]

Whether agni has separate existence from or is same as pitta? Herein it’s said agni has no separate existence. Pitta is agneya PERMEATED WITH AGNI ATTRIBUTES causing burning, digestion etc.

Ergo pitta is treated secondarily as antaragni. When agni attributes in pitta r reduced, then similar substances r added/administered 4 increasing it.

Furthermore, scriptural testimony favours agni=pitta identity. Ergo, agni & pitta have no separate existence.

[DalhaNa : suzruta : sutra 21:9]

According to Dalhana

If pitta & agni r identical, then y ghee alleviates pitta, yet stimulates agni?

Goat milk, fish etc. augment pitta’s quantity, but not agni’s. Same is case with sleep during daytime.

Fire according to VaizvAnara

Ergo, bile is fully pervaded by fire & it’s bile’s heat which is powerful. Along with bile, fire moves in kuxi = lower abdomen & through all circulation channels’ openings. This is called kAyAgni or kAyoSmA. This kAyAgni is also known as samyagAzraya (proper substratum), jIvana (life), ananya-gati (invariable dependant) of body.
