harekrishnadas Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Hare Krsna !!! In the online Bhagvadgita pdf from e-book at krishna.com the Fifth guru in the discplic succesion is given as 'Madhva (Advaita)' and the eigth guru is given as 'Madhava' (Ma in this name is with the dash on the top indicating its Maa). In the present printed versions the word Advaita is no longer present for the fifth guru. Another thing is the picture posted by Govindaram Prabhuji is probably not correct , it should probably be this one Got it from : http://www.rvc.edu/iskcon/disciplic_succession.html My question is does anybody know why the older editions (and the ebook at Krishna.com) of the Bhagavadgita As-it is term the fifth Guru Madhva as Advaita ? Another information I request is - Can anybody tell me a where I would find list of disciplic succession as followed by the Madhva sampradaya ? Does Gaudiya and Madhva sampradays list of disciplic succession match up till the 18th Guru Vyasatirtha ? Hare Krsna !!! Quote
Govindaram Posted May 31, 2004 Author Report Posted May 31, 2004 That is the right Picture. I don't know answer to what you asked, Take a guess that Madhvacharyas Guru was from Mayavadi line, etc, I read BR Sridhara Maharaja gives a good explanation to all this, but can't find it right now! Good luck. Quote
Vishnupriya Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Though VEdavyAsa was his real guru, vAsudeva chose shrI achyutaprekSha tIrtha, a great ascetic, to be the guru who would take him into the ascetic order. shrI achyutaprekSha belonged to the Advaita (nondualistic) school of VEdanta. He had his maTha in the Ananteshvara shrine, and was the spiritual leader of the community at that time. He was well known for his purity in thought, word and deed. He had studied the existing systems of philosophy and was conscious of their limitations. He was offering prayers to Lord Ananteshwara to bless him with true knowledge. Lord Ananteshwara, pleased with his devotion, informed him through the medium of a person, that he would soon get a disciple who would lead him on the correct path of knowledge and wisdom. VAsudeva approached shrI achyutaprekSha and requested him to take him as his disciple. achyutaprekSha, who was eagerly waiting for this moment, immediately agreed. Vishnupriya Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I had read the biography of Srimadanandathirtha written by different Madhva Scholars. I am not sure what Gaudiyas have said as I have read very little about your philosophy!!!! Quote
