Lord Sathyanarayana or Vishnu is the source of all avataras.He is the supreme most god worshipped by gods like Siva,Lakshmi,Parvati,Saraswathi and Brahma.No one is higher than Lord Sathyanarayana is the vedic declaration of Vishnu Sahasranama,but is Lord Sathyanarayana a bachelor or a married man?.Can someone clear these doubts

dont know much about this.

 

All I know is that Krsna is the supreme personality of godhead who expanded into Gorbadaksayi(sp) visnu and then Kisoradaksayi(sp)visnu. From Him came Brahma and from him came Shiva.

 

Atleast acording to the bagavatam. I am not qualified though, someone else can answer better then I can.

It is common knowledge that Vishnu's (Sathyanarayana's) wife is Srimati Lakshmi-devi.

 

What is interesting, though, is that there seems to be no lila describing Their wedding ceremony!

From the viewpoint of Divine Institution (Adhi Daivata) the sacrifices may be many but the sacrifices on the earth are only four. "Vishnu the God of sacrifices is the indestructible Akshara7". Pauranikas consider Vishnu as of four types — 1. The Lord of Paradise (Vaikunta Nadha) 2. The Lord-lying on the ocean of celestial waters 3. The inhabitant of the white Island (Sweta Dvipa), and 4. The Lord of Goloka (Golokanadha).

 

1. Jyotistoma is the region of light from the earth to 21st plane. It is full of fire. It is Vaikuntanatha–the first sacrifice. "This fiery and divine sacrifice (Swaha yajna) consists of 34 utterances and the 21st plane is its establishment (Pratista). Thirty three fire-deities related to Vishnu are its limbs. The whole of these deities is Vaikuntanadha Vishnu8".

 

2. Dwadasa yajna extends from 22nd plane to 33rd plane which is full of spiritual water (Apa) and essence (Soma). This is the Lord Vishnu lying on the Ocean. He is said to be having 34 utterances including Prajapati (Pridvi). He is the second Vishnu.

 

3. Navahayajna starts from 17th plane to 25th plane. The sacrificial Vishnu of this region will have white island as His habitation but is established at 21st level. He is the third Vishnu called Lord Satyanarayana.

 

4. Pancha Dasaha yajna extends from 22nd plane to 36th plane. It is uttered by Sama Veda. Here Gau spirits are born and hence is called Gosava or Goloka. It is established at 29th plane. This region is pervaded by the ocean, a form of spiritual water, air and essence.

The spiritual waters are the form of cows (Gua Spirits). They are of spreading nature. This is the supreme world (Paramesti). Lord Vishnu of this world is called Govinda. These four divisions belong to Pridvi that extends up to 33rd level. Thus they are the four dwellings places of the four types of Vishnu.

 

Lord Satyanarayana owing to utter blackness is white in complexion. The other three are blue in color. The Lord of Goloka has two arms but the others are four-armed. As Satyanarayana is an embodiment of Tapas, (self- mortification). He has no wife. The others have wives. Govinda Vishnu’s wife is Radha. She is the splendour of Vak (Vagjyoti) and carrier of wisdom (Janana Vahini). Lakshmi is the consort of Samudra Seyana Vishnu. She should be considered as Padma (Pridvi) born of the sea having the quality of terrestrial atoms (mrit paramanu lakshana). Vaikuntanatha has five wives – Pridvi, Tulasi, Ganga, Saraswati and Lakshmi. But he is considered to be having two wives –– ‘Sri Devi and Lakshmi (Bhudevi), perhaps the reason is the three wives Pridvi, Tulasi, and Saraswati are accepted by the word ‘Sree’. Here ‘Pridvi’ means celestial waters called ‘maras’ the source of the Earth. Tulasi means the waters of Solar rays called marichis, the source of medicinal herbs and plants. Ganga means waters called ‘ambhas’. Saraswati means waters of Vak-Mandala. Lakshmi = Padmini = Medini, the solid globular Earth. Wife is the passage (yoni) of Retas = Sukra. Mahad Brahma is the Yoni.

 

1. Vishnu of the celestial ocean, always sleeps and often awakes. The Splendour of ignition (Agni) is the waking state. The ignition will be weak in the sea and hence the sacrifice will be slackened. The word ‘sleep’ denotes this condition.

 

2. As Satyanarayana will always be in self-mortification, He is always awake. He never sleeps since Navaha yajna at 21st plane uniformly continues throughout the year.

 

3. It is creation (sristi) if the Lord of Goloka is in waking state and it is destruction (pralaya) if He sleeps.

 

4. Vaikuntanatha will be awake for eight months and sleeps for four months. During these four months, there will be dominating influence of water and the fire becomes recessive. So the sacrifices will be destroyed. This is what we call ‘sleep of Vishnu’.

Vishnu – The Cosmic Being - STV Raghavacharyulu

 

The Saints like Hiranyagarbha, worship Isvara as ‘Vishnu, with two hands––the eternal and non-eternal. He bears the Heaven called Swayambhu in eternal hand and the Earth in non-eternal hand. Thus He stands in the middle!’ Taking the Heaven and the Earth, under His control, He becomes Viswagarbha. There is no one Superior to Him. On one side, He creates the tripartite world-Samyati (Swayambhu Dyau)-Space (Antariksha) and Paramesti (Pridvi) and appoints Swayambhu Brahma to it and gives Him Vedas. He governs wisdom and the Vedas. On another side He creates the tripartite world, Rodasi (Bhu=Earth, Bhuva=space and Suvah = Sun) and appoints Siva called Maheswara to it, and gives Him cattle (Pasus) and physical elements (bhutas). He governs them. Thus Vishnu is the single supreme God to be worshipped. The inactive matter and mind will be under the control of the Vital spirit (Prana). So "among the three universal distinctions caused by Knowledge, action and matter, the knowledge and material habitations will be under the control of Lord Vishnu, the spirit-giver1".

 

"The Solar institution that blazes in the sky, which is divided into three parts I. Global form (Ruk, murty), its extension (Sama) and Being (Purusha), (Rik, Mahavarta and Purusha) is called Hiranya2".

 

The Supreme world (Paramesti) is His habitation and the Supreme ocean is His body. "His abode is above the Heaven (Dyu Loka or Surya Loka)3". The region below Paramestivishnu is called Maheswaram. The blue sky that we see above is Paramesti. It is the body of Lord Vishnu. The eternal fire `Sukra’ is the indweller of the Solar Institution. He is known as Hiranmaya Purusha, the soul of Hiranyagarbha (Vishnu). "Yestad Reto Yad Hiranyam".

 

Retas means Sukram. He is the first individual (Prajapati). He is the illuminator, splitter and destroyer of all. He is the Lord of wisdom and vital spirit (Prana). He is the supreme spirit of Death. " The Sun is at the center between mortality and immortality4".

 

"All above the Sun is eternal and immortal, full of essence (Soma). All below the Sun is mortal and is full of Fire (Agni). So Paramesti which is above the Sun is full of Soma and the Earth below is full of Fire. The Sun God unites the essence and fire5" as there is an incessant fall of essence into the fire there (Sarvahuta yajna). It leads to the evolution of Vedas of Mother Goddess Gayatri." These are manifestational, with physical light (Bhutajyoti) as, their Prakriti6". The Sun-God (Thrayi Brahma), the source of things existence is the glory of Lord Vishnu. To Vishnu, the Sun is the heart, Swayambhu is the head and the Earth is the feet. Thus Vishnu who is Adhikarikeswara is also all-pervading in the Seven Worlds.

Haridhamji, no of course you are not lacking in knowledge. What you said is quite correct from our (Gaudiya) point of view. The original Guest obviously believes that Vishnu comes first, and we believe Krsna comes first, but I decided not to get into that. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

i assume this is same satyanarayan as is described in satyanarayan katha in skanda purana/reva khanda.

 

i assume sri STV Raghavacharyulu is a person and not a publishing company. if so, could you please tell more about him and the original source from where this information about satyanarayan comes please?

There is only one Satyanarayana Swamy form and He is mentioned in Reva Kaanda. My post talks about Him only. the original information was obtained from a website written by Indian Vaishnavite Raghhavacharyulu. I guess hhe is from Andrapradesh. I dont know annything more than this.
