theist 1 Report post Posted May 1, 2003 I have bought herbs from these folks for years. Reliable. The herbs are always fresh as they come and they sell wholesale to the public with a $30 mininum order. Buy on-line or over the phone. They ship UPS They have a somewhat limited product line. Basic herbs and cooking spices. Gotu Kola (brahmi) for example is around $3.00 a lb. Siberian Ginseng powder is less then $3.00 a lb. More discounts on 5lbs and up. Check 'em out http://www.sfherb.com/retail_store.asp
Guest guest Report post Posted May 2, 2003 if you live in Hawaii, gota kola grows all over . either in lawns ,or any where really, on maui across the street from 'down to Earth' in the bushes that are growing for the mall decoration i spotted a huge patch of it growing large and well formed. also i noticed it growing right in front of the health food store in hilo, around coconut trees. I've seen it grow in huge patches and sprinkled throught out lawns there.
theist 1 Report post Posted May 2, 2003 You can find it everywhere there. I used to go to the Pali lookout for it. On one side of the hill there was this huge patch and the leaves grew very large. Fresh picked Brahmi tastes sweet, unlike the dried versions which are bitter. If we are not so lucky to live in the Islands go to the store I posted above and they sell it for $3.00 a lb, cut or powder. shiva you seem to know alot about herbs. Formal training or just an interest?
stonehearted 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2003 I remember it growing in the garden at the temple in Nuuanu. Bhaktisvarupa Damodar Maharaja had some while visiting there in the late '70s and commented that it's actually helpful for those who are celibate. theist 1 Report post Posted May 2, 2003 Gotu kola is wonderful. I visited the temple when he was there at that time. I remember walking into the prasadam room and there was this tray partialy eaten sitting on the refrig. Upendra was standing there and I asked him whose tray is that. He said Svarupa Damodar's. I joyfully went over and picked it up and took it out and beneath that amazing banyan tree in the back had a little feast on the devotees left over prasada. I still can see the big grin on Upendra's face as he watched me gooble up my good fortune.
