Avinash 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 Could someone tell me the source of the verse tvameva mAtA ca pitA tvameva... ? Thanks
Jahnava Nitai Das 2 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 This verse is found in Sripada Ramanujacharya's "Sharanagati-gadyam". It is also found in the Mahabharata spoken by Gandhari to Krishna. The Srimad Bhagavatam has a similar verse: bhavaya nas tvam bhava vishva-bhavana tvam eva matatha suhrit-patih pita tvam sad-gurur nah paramam ca daivatam yasyanuvrittya kritino babhuvima "O creator of the universe, You are our mother, well-wisher, Lord, father, spiritual master and worshipable Deity. By following in Your footsteps we have become successful in every respect. We pray, therefore, that You continue to bless us with Your mercy."
Avinash 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 Are the verse written by Sri Ramanujacarya and the one in Mahabharat exactly same? If not, which one matches the famous school prayer?
Jahnava Nitai Das 2 Report post Posted December 30, 2002 I believe there is a single word different, perhaps its the first "ca" that is moved. The school prayer is the one from Mahabharata.
REASWARAN 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I believe the source is the Tattriya Upanishads
