Gauracandra Posted May 23, 2001 Report Share Posted May 23, 2001 I was wondering if anyone could explain the symbolic nature of Indian women who part their hair and put the red ointment across (I think it is vermillion). I understand it is a symbol of chastity, but does anyone have an understanding on how this developed? I have heard one story but it doesn't seem real reasonable to me. No need to repeat it.
