maadhav
in the vedic literature it is not considered an auspicius event. so, the litrature prescribes acts to clean the environment in the house, within the body, mind, intelligence, and do austerity, sadhana, japa, etc.

maadhav
all the trash, any dirty or broken things, old earthern plate on which indian tortias are cooked, old pans with dints and blak due to carbon from smoke stuck over months, etc. are thrown out. room floors and some thigns are washed/cleaned. people fast or eat light foods that are easy to digest. prayers and chantings are done individually, not in groups. no socal auspicius activity is begun on that day. temples however continue doing their aartis as usual.
