Dude,

Whether you desire or not everybody have to leave the earthly existence. Only Hindus accepts this universal truth with sanctity where as others do it with fear. In the spiritual path one can advance mainly by giving up earthly desires and focussing on spiritual path as earthly desires are distractions. It is also linked to the concept of karmas and rebirth. Onlt by devoting oneself to the spiritual path one can be free from this unending cylc of birth and rebirth. Life is not easy eben for one life as we can see the miseries of even most successful people on the plant.

To desrire liberation from earthly existence briefly means

-to realise that your own desires are the cause for all the pain you experience

-that pain & happiness are superficial and there is a real you which is desireless sat-chit-ananda nature. This real you is the welcome to the world of spirituality.

From this desire for liberation comes the knowledge of spirituality & non-duality.

Desire for liberation with the realization to realize is extremely important first step for hinduism.

Without this desire, you get stuck in duality. Hype about a spiritual relationship with lord, but in actual essense it lands up as the relationship between your ego/desires & the lord (and this is no less mundane or different from the less-spiritual western religions)
