jayan008
I guess you should read the 'Bhagvad Gita', to get a good insight into your doubts and inhibitions, to start with. Try to avoid reading/practising too many things, in the begining, b'coz it could confuse you...and there would be many people who would recommend different books and different practices emphazing that they are following the right path etc., because in hindu religion there are various dieties and each has its followers. However on reading 'Bhagvad Gita' you will understand the basic meaning - while only the form and its name changes (Brahma, Vishu, Mahesh or their incarnations Rama, Krishna etc.,), the Lord is one. You should, while seeking the knowledge - be impartial, open minded and positive.... and not give importance to - the form of worship, the events involved, the history involved, the authenticity of the form etc., - but utmost important to the message it carries. Best of Luck.

Guest guest
i would agree that you dont need to go into too much depth. BUT you must try and understand the esoteric nature of the scripture. perhaps you can read up on some books by Chinmoy ("explanations of the vedas, upanishads, and bhagavad gita"), or some very simple translations of the bhagavad gita. wrong impressions and understandings can lead to dangerous conclusions, or even dangerous occult practice, so please give yourself time to understand hindu methods. the simplest way, to my understanding, may be to cleanse and purify your actions and thoughts. spend time each day reveling in God. communicate with and surrender to God. spend 10 minutes in a quiet spot and gradually you will find peace. once you are learned and wise enough, you will discover just how it is that each religion expresses their love for God. God is inside you, the best way is to listen to the inner witness. expect nothing, just give your love and faith, and you will be rewarded. Guest guest
to be a hindu, you dont need to know mythical culture. you dont need to know why there are many gods. you dont need to concern yourself with doctrines on karma and reincarnation. following hinduism means two things: * seeking the utmost truth - God * upholding righteousness seek God. find what is pure. pray for protection, purity, strength, determination. make an effort with your faith. think of God daily and He will purify you. dont follow 'religion', follow God's path. that is what you need to do, the rest comes. do what is good and righteous. refrain yourself from performing worldly material actions. destroy desires and rid yourself of personal ego, ignorance and pride. be joyful and praise God, seek Him. this is how to be a Hindu.
