Guest guest
What is the meaning of this word? Why do people say it is a phallic symbol, when all this time I thought it represented infinity. Can someone please provide links so I can understand it better.
bhadramoorthi
The supreme being is devoid of any forms. LINGAM = SYMBOL Hence we worship siva with a symbol which symbolifies the NIRGUNA BRAHMAM.
jagdish
Possiblilities Shiv = pure/absolute = without any material contamination In its purest form it represents infinity/eternity - that which is eternal and thus has no end or beginning. Hence, in its purest form it could also represent the creative energy and is symbolic representation of fertility of the divine nature - because it is that which creates the creation of which we are all part. It is also said The bottom part of the Lingam represents Brahma The middle part represents Vishnu The top part represents Mahesh/Shiv Thus also representing that which is Absolute and Complete in every way.
