But I'm very shy to ask him about it. All the time around his body he has thin rope. I know that it is very important to him and he never takes it out. I can understand that it deals with religion. Sometimes I can see that other indians treat him with big respect. Maybe somebody can explain for me this rope meaning. Thanx in advance. maadhav Posted November 28, 2004 Report Share Posted November 28, 2004 If it goes around from left shoulder to right arm pit, then it is yojnopavita. it signifies that he has undergone yajnopavit samskara making him a cultured human (an arya) out of a two legged animal without a tail. per vedic scripure, a man is just an animal at birth, by proper traing and yajnopavita rite, he becomes a human. (he is like a twice-born but in vedic sense). traditionally, brahmana and kshatriyas undergo this samskara ceremony. usually it happens at an age of 5 to 10. if some one does not time to do it at that age, then it is done in a short ceremony at the time of one's marriage. this holy thread is hand-made by a brahmana or a sadhu. it has three threads, and a special knot called brahma gaantha. at the time of marriage the groom wears one more holy thread on behalf of her wife. in ancient vedic times girls also were underging this ceremony, but since 2-5 thousands years only men get it. the thread idelly mean one is a serious vedic person, a serious hindu. hope it helps. If you are in India, You are among the threaded (who holds thread on shoulder) I mean Brahmin, all they are not out of two legged animal (in your language). Sacred thread is respectable thing. But who is entitle or eligible for this thread or rebirthing Brahmin ? The person by birth or with knowledge (brahma gyaan)? Or both ? Who is nara-shreshtha (holy man) ? An uncultured threaded Person or a gyaani (who has obtained cosmic knowledge, who knows and realizes the three forms of human being, one who is able to say the way of salvation), super conscious person. Everybody is a subtle, invisible part of the creator. But 99.09% (suppose) People are not conscious, they are just sleeping and dreaming. It is not meaning that they are two legged animal ! I think you are a highly educated intellectual and an articulate orator and writer. So I could not expect such language from you. Thanks.
