Was it Meru or Sumeru or something like that? I have recently heard that there is a mountain named Sumeru which is an active volcano in Java. Perhaps this was the mountain referred to in our holy scriptures. Also, there was supposed to be a HUGE volcanic eruption in the Indonesian area some 12000 years ago. I believe this is what is referred to in the story of Kurma Avatar. Before anyone jumps on my back, please allow me to explain myself and also respect my beliefs.....I firmly believe that kurma avatar was a story about a volcanic eruption; a massive one at that. it had to be massive for it to be part of our cultural history. This would explain the reason people bleive God was the one that saved them during this experience. Please try to understand my poitn of view and contemplate on what im saying and what i mean. Guest guest Posted November 6, 2004 Report Share Posted November 6, 2004 im not twisting interpretations.....first u must understand, that the vedic texts or any others texts or scriptures from any religion anywhere are not meant to be taken literlaly. one should understand what the text entails and go about trying to undertsand it for hwa the meaning is.....reading it and interpreting it literally is a superficial amateur way to go about it....if one were to read them literlaly, it would not take lifetimes to understand them....all that wouldbe needed is to read and memorize... use ur mind, contemplate on what the story says, and see how it realtes to reality.....the existantial aspect of life on earth was no different then than now....one's way of explaining life is what has changed. alot of hinduism has alot of symbolism that any amateur would have a hard time udnerstanding..... Guest guest Posted November 8, 2004 Report Share Posted November 8, 2004 and i also didnt say that i was wise....im just a 22yo student of truth and god. i have the right to explore any and every avenue of possible truth and i will do so. through my explorations of life, i come to my understand of it....this by no means makes it right. but im trying to learn what is right........ also, just because no acharya has said this is no reason to claim this to be false.....r u just one who follows the words of others blidnly....even Lord Krishna has said dont follow blindly, instead learn, contemplate and understand....that is precisely what i am trying to do Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
